History

The Hell Hulk was one of the many experiments created in one of Hell's laboratories by Severith for Mephisto. After gaining his powers from the Infernal Furnace, the Hell Hulk flew into a berserk rage and attacked Mephisto, nearly killing the Hell Lord until he summoned Bugra-ghul to save him. Bagra-ghul cut the Hell Hulk into pieces, which still remained alive, and Mephisto ordered Bagra-ghul to scatter them throughout Earth.[1]

The demonic energies that radiated from the Hell Hulk's sentient disembodied parts caused those within range to fall into uncontrollable rages and violence. Severith joined the Project Hellfire under the premise of keeping the populace safe from the Hell Hulk's influence, but was secretly conspiring to restore his old creation to use as revenge against Mephisto. After the Hell Hulk was reassembled, Severith betrayed Project Hellfire and reawakened him, resulting in the Hell Hulk destroying the Pentangle and nearly killing the Destroyers. Severith then put the Hell Hulk under his thrall and loaded him onto an armored truck, which he drove through Washington, D.C.. The energies from the Hell Hulk drove the populace insane, resulting in the deaths of thousands.[2] Severith traveled to Hell's Backbone in Utah, where he planned to use the Hell Hulk to lure Mephisto to Earth—where he will be weaker—and kill him.[3] Using the Hell Hulk as a conduit, Seveirth opened a gateway to Hell and summoned a horde of demons, but was confronted by Mephisto and Hellverine, who formed a temporary truce to stop him. The Hell Hulk viciously attacked Mephisto while Severith restrained Hellverine with magic. However, when the Destroyers and Aurora intervened, Mephisto used the opportunity to capture the Hell Hulk and dragged him back to his realm.[4]

Demonic Physiology: Shortly after his birth, the infant Hell Hulk was placed in the Infernal Furnace, rapidly aging him and granting a Hulk-like physiology, granting him similar powers and abilities to his namesake in addition to several other demonic powers:

  • Superhuman Strength: The Hell Hulk possesses superhuman strength.[1]
  • Superhuman Durability: The Hell Hulk is immune to most injuries.[1]
  • Demonic Energy Emission: The Hell Hulk's body emits a demonic radiation that has a dangerous effect to those within range of it. Even the Hell Hulk's severed limbs can still give off this energy and induce its effects onto others. However those with demonic heritage or empowered by demons can resist this energy.[5]
    • Anger Inducement: Those within range of the energies from the Hell Hulk can fall into uncontrollable rages.[5]
