History
Hellrune was taken by Hydra at a young age to be part of their new recruitment program conceived by Gremlin, where they would brainwash kids to forget their past and morals to do their bidding.[4]
Thanks to Spider-Woman, they were able to break free from Hydra's control and get back to their old lives.[5] However, unlike her friends, Hellrune had no family waiting for her, since she was an orphan, and was therefore put under the care of a foster family.[1]Attributes
Powers
Magic Spear: Hellrune has several magical abilities that seem to come from her magic spear.[6] These include:
- Teleportation: Hellrune can create magic portals with her spear that allow her and her teammates to move from one place to another more quickly.[2]
- Lightning Generation: Her magic spear can release lightning energy strong enough to harm her opponent.[6]
- Flight: Hellrune can fly by using her spear.[4]
- Energy Constructs: She can create dense magical constructs such as chains or rainbows to bind her opponents.[2][1]
- Costume Alteration[1]
- Energy Projection: Hellrune is able to unleash powerful energy blast by channeling her magical energy through her spear which has proven strong enough to destroy dozens of undead Vikings.[3] although she actually got a little help from her aunt, Veleda.
Notes
- Hellrune and the other New Champions were originally conceived for the New Champions variant cover program, a series of covers celebrating Spider-Boy by imagining hypothetical non-canon "forgotten" sidekicks for other Marvel characters. In Hellrune's case, she debuted in the New Champions variant cover for Immortal Thor #3 and was conceptualized by artist Toni Infante.[7]
Trivia
- While most New Champions didn't have actual codenames and defined powers due to the nature of their inception until writer Steve Foxe fleshed them out,[8] Hellrune's designer, Toni Infante, internally conceptualized her with the name "Raven."[9]
