History
Baron Zemo joined up with the Red Skull and Dr. Doom, along with other supervillains, to kill all the world's superheroes and remake the world in their image. Zemo pressured the reluctant Thunderbolts into betraying the Avengers and killing them.[1] After killing the rest of the Avengers, Zemo left Hawkeye as the lone survivor, so that he would have someone else who remembered his victory.[2]
Zemo set up the Kingdom of Zemo in the western part of what had previously been the United States of America and crowned himself king. The kingdom was a repressive totalitarian state, but it was considered a better place to live than the other parts of the former country.[3]
Eleven years after V-Day, Zemo had a son, named Herman. Over the next few years, he developed cancer, which he kept secret so that the people wouldn't rise up against his government. The cancer eventually killed him, but before he died, he instructed his guards to keep up the pretext that he was still alive.[2]Personality
According to Herman, Helmut Zemo was neither a happy man nor a good father.[2]
