History

The Soviet Fantastic Four defeated Hank Pym thanks to the Square-cube law. Reed forced him to grow, rendering his lungs incapable of supplying enough oxygen to sustain him. Reed did this in an attempt to incapacitate him without considering the consequences, and afterward he was horrified by what he had done.
