When the Wise Men saw a brilliant star in the sky, they knew that the Messiah had come. They came the king Herod to know where was the king of the Jews, as they wished to worship him. Herod's priests sent them to Bethlehem.

As he feared that the child would take his throne, he ordered all children up to the age of two years to be killed (but missed the king of the Jews, as his father had fled into Egypt with his family on the advice of an angel).

Herod eventually died, and was replaced by his son Archelaus as king of Judea.[1]
