History
The Homines Verendi was an anti-mutant organization created and led by former members of the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club, Kade Kilgore, Wilhelmina Kensington, Manuel Enduque, and Maximilian Frankenstein, who also recruited Taiwanese billionaire and anti-mutant activist, Chen Zhao.[2][3]
One of their plans to make mutantkind hurt consisted of buying the healing drugs of Krakoa from the black market and replacing them with poisonous drugs, so they could accuse mutants of trying to kill humans,[4] but, thanks to the intelligence of Delores Ramirez, the mutants were able to switch the drugs before they were given to the people, making Homines Verendi unwillingly help save numerous lives and waste millions in the black market.[5]
On a different front, the Verendi were trying to raze the lowtown of Madripoor to build more towers and get even richer, so the Hellfire Trading Corporation outbid them in buying multiple properties to ensure the safety of the people, including the creation of a free hospital for everyone. Revolted with this affront, the Verendi then unleashed an all-new team of Reavers, composed of biomechanically augmented mercs and criminals recently maimed by mutants, against the Marauders, successfully causing an international incident that resulted in the Marauders being banned from Madripoor.[6]
With their protectors gone, the people of Lowtown were pillaged and had their houses destroyed by the Reavers, but the Marauders sent a small team of Morlocks into the city to fight the Reavers and keep the people safe one more day.[7]
Verendi also contracted the Reavers to kidnap several chemical students in an attempt to create a weapon against mutants. Those who defied them, Verendi drowned and made the others watch as it happened. One of the students managed to escape and in a chance encounter met Hope Summers, who together with Cable managed to rescue the survivors and defeat Verendi and the Reavers. [8]See Also
