When they were broadcasting a worldwide message to the Earth threatening with plundering humanity of its greatest resource, the Hordax's ship was wrecked by the Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood.

But the Surfer's interference didn't stop them from continuing their journey to the Earth and using a miniaturized Illuminatrix to steal from the Earth its culture, absorbing the essence of every work of art and every single piece of expression made by humanity.

The Silver Surfer returned to thee Hordax's ship, and their commander used the Illuminatrix to empower his warriors with the myths and legends of the Earth. The empowered Hordax soon discovered they had not only absorbed the powers of these fictional characters, but also their behavior and life lessons. This caused the Hordax to soon give up the power and release what they had stolen back to the Earth.

However, before leaving, the Hordax made it clear they were well-intentioned. And had only stolen Earth of its culture in order to preserve it from an upcoming doom.[1]
