The House of Mephisto was a church that was dedicated to the worship of Mephisto. Its head was Cleric Matt Murdock. After hearing criminals confess their sins but then go right back to sinning, Murdock had a crisis of faith and decided to show the criminals a different path to redemption. He became the vigilante the Saint and attacked criminals. When Murdock's identity as the Saint was exposed, he held himself in the House of Mephisto until Commissioner Luke Cage convinced him to surrender.[1]
