History
On Earth-7918, a world where the human race would reach the starts in the early 1900's, the Howling Commandos would have a vastly different history than their Earth-616 counterparts. They would be gathered by Captain Samuel Sawyer to be a commando squad for Earth's military in the on going galactic war against the evil Betans. Their roster would include, former circus strong man Dum Dum Dugan, musician Gabe Jones, the youthful Junior Juniper, Dino Manelli the ladies man, the bumbling Izzy Cohen, and cowboy Rebel Ralston. Sawyer would then travel to Space Station Pearl in order to recruit Nick Fury and Red Hargrove.
This would be on the date that the Betans would attack the station causing massive damage, Sawyer would die saving Fury and Hargrove telling them why he came seeking them out. With the attack, the Earth would enter the war with their Alpha sector allies and Fury and Hargrove would join the Howling Commandos. Fury would act as their field leader and train them how to use their specially made weapons. Although their odd ball behavior caused Fury much aggravation they became a tight knit team.
They would be under the command of a computer given the rank of Captain, much to their chagrin. When they proved to be resistant to order, the captain would assign a robot to monitor the group, irking Fury even more. They would be stationed at Space Station Midway, which was believed to be the next target of the Betan army. This would prove correct, and as the invasion would happen, Fury and his men were ordered to defend the base with the exception of Hargrove who was sent to lead the battalion to lead the counter attack in space.
The Howlers would learn that Admiral Strucker, a German loyalist, was a traitor giving information to the Betans in the hopes that they would give Germany full control of the Earth after they had taken over. The Howlers would easily round up Strucker's minions, and Strucker himself would be sucked out of an airlock in a one-on-one battle with Nick Fury. The Howlers would then use a shuttle to rescue Red, who's ship was destroyed. However in the process of turning the tide of battle, the robot charged to watch them would be destroyed.
Returning to base, the battle won, their captain would commend them for a job well done but chastise them for not following orders. Fury would find the computer similar to old Captain Sawyer and would call it his old nickname.[1]
When last seen, the Howling Commandos were still active, however their subsequent activities remain unrevealed.See Also
