History
Hugh Jones was the CEO of the Roxxon Corporation in the 1940s. SSR Chief Roger Dooley and Agent Jack Thompson went to speak with him after one of his factories was destroyed in a mysterious blast. Chief Dooley believed Howard Stark was behind the destruction, and Jones bolstered that belief that Stark was working with Nitramene, a dangerous substance that could have destroyed the factory. Despite Jones' protests, the SSR screened Roxxon's employees for residual Vita-Radiation from the blast, and found Miles Van Ert, a scientist, was at the factory when it was destroyed.[1]
At some point in his life, Jones became a member of the Council of Nine, a group of powerful businessmen seeking to control the US government. In 1946, Jones was present at the Council meeting when they brought in fellow member, Calvin Chadwick, to pressure him into shutting down the Zero Matter project run by his company, Isodyne Energy, and focus on his senatorial campaign.[2]
Later, at his Los Angeles office, Jones met and flirted with a beautiful red-head accountant named Wanda, but subsequently recognized her as Agent Peggy Carter and confronted her. Carter used a memory inhibitor on him, making Jones forget the last two minutes but remembered Carter again, in which Carter was forced to use the device on him multiple times as she searched his person for a key to one of his facilities containing nuclear warheads.[3]Notes
