History
A Mother's Folly[]
Hunter was born in late 1694 in Salem, the child of Gregor and Lilith. Gregor was a mortal man, but Lilith was an immortal of the Blood, an ancient race descended from the Elder Gods themselves, and their union was not approved of by Lilith's sister Sara.[1]
Lilith and Gregor with their child
Before the child was one year old, their father fell victim to the illness that was spreading through Salem. The newborn child fell ill as well, and Lilith was consumed by grief. She went to Hiram Shaw, discovering that he was reading from the Darkhold. The sisters battled Shaw, sealing him away to rot and die. However, Lilith had taken the Darkhold in a desperate attempt to save her child by making a deal with Chthon. Sara discovered her in the middle of the ritual, and the two sisters fought, with Sara prevailing and banishing Lilith from the Abbey, but Sara could not bring herself to abandon the child and took it to raise as her own, becoming their Caretaker. The child fully recovered, and in exchange Chthon transformed Lilith into a demonic form, forcing her into his servitude.[2]
Joined by Agatha Harkness, Sara named the child "Hunter" and raised them as their own. By the age of four, Hunter was told of Lilith and was raised and trained as a weapon against her. Sara used her ancestral power to fashion an orichalcum collar to protected Hunter from the darkness. A pack of hellhounds that attacked The Abbey in the early 1700s. The Hunter could not bear to kill the sole survivor, who by the following night had taken to sleeping at the foot of Hunter's bed and was named Charlie, a loyal companion. As they came of age, Hunter joined the Midnight Suns - Jeremiah Kaine, Endra Moor, Will Walker, and Yelena Nicovich - as a force to stand against Lilith. Together, they confronted Lilith as she was reading from the Darkhold. While their allies have perished, Hunter reached and touched the Darkhold, resulting in a mystical feedback that killed them and Lilith both. They were buried and commemorated on the Abbey grounds.
Return[]
Hunter is brought back to life.
In the 2020s, Lilith was resurrected by the Hydra, her devastating powers augmented and amplified by modern technology and magic. Pushed by the desperation, Sarah and Doctor Strange decided to resurrect Hunter, so that they could stand against Lilith once more. Strange and Caretaker entered Hunter's tomb and began a resurrection spell which triggered an unexpected reaction from Hunter's Collar, alarming Caretaker until Nico Minoru stepped forward and successfully completed the resurrection using her Staff of One. Hunter woke up, and upon emerging from their crypt immediately encountered Blade who suggested they join the others waiting nearby. Hunter spoke with Nico, who introduced herself along with her companions Robbie, Illyana, and Blade, which caused Hunter to recognize that Caretaker had assembled a new incarnation of the Midnight Suns.
Nico Minoru completes Hunter's resurrection.
Hunter reunited with Caretaker, noticing that she had aged considerably and stunned to discover that centuries had passed. Hunter's final memories remained unclear, but Strange mentioned a spell that could restore the missing memories. The Mirror Table indicated that his apprentice Wanda Maximoff was in danger at the Sanctum Sanctorum. Strange couldn't create a direct portal because of Lilith's mystical interference, so Magik offered to forge a pathway through Limbo instead. The team of Hunter, Blade, and Doctor Strange arrived in New York City and encountered Hydra forces.
Venom and Faustus[]
Hunter arrives into the present day New York.
Scarlet Witch struggled to maintain the protective wards, allowing Lilith to breach the Sanctum's defenses. The building was enveloped by massive writhing shell created from the Venom symbiote. Strange attempted to dispel the supernatural growth, inadvertently triggering a reaction with Hunter's Collar, which summoned Venom from the tendrils. After seemingly defeating Venom, Hunter impulsively pursued the creature only to discover that it was merely a deception. Venom pounced, pinning Hunter and preparing to deliver a fatal blow when Spider-Man appeared, distracting Venom long enough to lead the creature away from the group and allow them to escape.
Back at the Abbey, Caretaker berated Hunter for taking unnecessary risks. Hunter went to sleep, experiencing a dream with voices of Agatha and the original Midnight Suns during their final battle. Hunter was awoken by Charlie enthusiastic licking their face just before Caretaker entered to apologize, explaining her fear of seeing Hunter injured again. In the War Room, Captain Marvel was able to trace the unique gamma signature from the Sanctum to its source in the Warehouse District.
Captain Marvel absorbs the blast.
Captain Marvel and Blade joined Hunter, and upon arriving on the warehouse roof, they immediately noted Hydra's presence before spotting Doctor Faustus and an unknown device through a skylight below. Captain Marvel opted for a direct approach, smashing through the skylight and engaging the Hydra troops. Faustus decided to test his device, which exploded in a massive energy burst which Captain Marvel managed to absorb. That night in the Abbey, Caretaker and Hunter spoke, and Sara revealed that Agatha had been killed in an accident while training Wanda. Charlie guided Hunter to the memorial shrine for Agatha where the ghost of Agatha herself appeared, noting that Hunter was the first to perceive her presence. Agatha requested that Hunter keep her spectral presence a secret from Sara, who needed to accept what had happened before she would be able to perceive Agatha again. At night, Hunter began talking to Lilith in the dreams, who expressed pleasure at seeing her child again despite Hunter's anger.
Peter Parker joined the Abbey team after saving Hunter from Venom.
The following day, Caretaker emphasized the necessity of tracking down Venom to help Spider-Man after he had saved Hunter from certain doom. Nico and the other Suns announced they had successfully tracked the pair through social media. Hydra soldiers attempted to capture Venom but failed spectacularly when the heroes arrived. They fought both Venom and Hydra until Spider-Man leapt atop a set of loudspeakers and used a microphone to generate audio feedback that drove Venom away. The deafening blast also incapacitated Spider-Man himself, leading the Hunter to transport him back to the Abbey for recovery. Spider-Man was enthusiastic about joining the campaign against Lilith, initially insisting on keeping his identity secret, but eventually revealing himself to the team.
Faustus cornered
Captain Marvel detected the gamma signature from the Hydra technology again, and seeking to capture Doctor Faustus, Hunter and Captain Marvel departed for New York Harbor. They observed Faustus ordering Hydra soldiers transporting a gamma-infused device. Captain Marvel vaulted down to the docks, where the heroes managed to neutralize the bomb and successfully capture Faustus. He initially refused to cooperate with their interrogation, though his defiant attitude rapidly dissolved when faced with Captain Marvel's unwavering determination. Just as Faustus prepared to answer their questions, he was suddenly struck by a green dart and disintegrated, leaving nothing but dust. The heroes located the shooter, identifying Crossbones perched on a nearby tower before he escaped the scene. Though the mission wasn't entirely fruitless as Hunter discovered Faustus' notebook among the scattered debris, Captain Marvel was frustrated that Faustus was killed right when he was ready to talk.
Fall of the Tower[]
Ambushed by Sabretooth
After another mission, Hunter's teammates left through the portal ahead of Hunter, who was suddenly ambushed by Sabretooth. Sabretooth revealed that Crossbones had placed a bounty on Hunter's head when Wolverine appeared and engaged Sabretooth. Hunter and Wolverine emerged victorious, though when Hunter hesitated to deliver the killing blow, Sabretooth seized the opportunity and sank his teeth into Hunter's neck, triggering a burst of energy from the Collar that wounded Sabretooth and forced him to retreat. Wolverine pursued his enemy but failed to locate him as Sabretooth was found by Lilith who used her powers to enthrall him. That night, Hunter was woken up in the middle of the night by a transmission from Bruce Banner, who requested to conduct a scan of Hunter to determine how radiation was affecting them.
The Sentinel of Liberty
Doctor Banner called the team, explaining that his condition was affecting him while only he and Steve Rogers remained stationed at the Tower. The call began breaking up due to interference, though the phrase "complete defensive grid failure" rang through clearly before Banner warned the team about approaching Hydra gunships. Iron Man and Hunter immediately departed for Avengers Tower. They observed Captain America engaged in combat with Hydra forces on the rooftop. A squadron of Hydra helicopters launched missiles at the Tower, and though Iron Man intercepted most of them, one missile got through, damaging the top floors. Crossbones then descended to the rooftop and engaged the heroes.
Bruce Banner reveals his betrayal.
After being defeated, Crossbones leapt from the Tower's edge onto a helicopter. Banner was hanging on the ladder, taunting the heroes and expressing gratitude for the Gamma Accelerator he took from the Tower, having fallen under Lilith's corrupting influence. Banner then triggered a series of explosions throughout Avengers Tower as the team narrowly escaped back to the Abbey. That night, Lilith appeared in another dream claiming she hadn't compelled Banner but instead liberated him from those who sought to control him, drawing parallels to Hunter and asserting that Hunter would freely stand beside her when the time came.
Sneaking Out[]
Robbie and Blade are left behind.
The next day, Hunter dreamed of Scarlet Witch, following her to the edge of the cliffs as she called out Hunter's name. Agatha was aware of Hunter's dream and urged Hunter to rescue Wanda, insisting that defeating Lilith would be impossible without her. Upon entering the chapel, Hunter discovered the Midnight Suns discussing a spell they had found in one of Caretaker's books that could potentially track Wanda. Robbie mentioned that the four of them had experienced identical dreams about Wanda, and upon noticing Hunter, realized the number was actually five. Nico secured the door as the group arranged themselves in a circle on the floor. She told everyone to maintain concentration on the spell as she began chanting, with the other four joining in. Black smoke emanated from the mirror, causing both Robbie and Blade to cease chanting while Nico began floating in the air. Hunter seized the Staff of One and shattered the mirror, creating a vortex that sucked Hunter, Nico, and Magik, leaving Blade and Robbie behind.
Fallen Scarlet Witch
The trio emerged in a Hydra lab where Hunter sensed something both powerful and malevolent. Banner began taunting them over a loudspeaker, confused about how they had located this facility before deducing that they came for Wanda rather than the Gamma Accelerator. A large glass tube revealed Wanda inside, corrupted by Lilith. Hunter said that death offered the only chance for release, as Fallen Scarlet Witch burst from the tube and attacked. Magik recognized their need to escape and opened a portal. Nico was still attempting to reason with Wanda but Hunter and Magik grabbed her and dove through the portal. They tumbled out back at the Abbey where the portal was forcibly reopened by Wanda who began pushing herself through while Magik struggled to close it. Caretaker appeared and managed to drive Wanda back, sealed the portal, and stormed off, leaving Nico and Magik visibly distressed.
Dealing with Venom[]
Hunter attempts to purge Venom
Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel identified an underground shipping facility potentially housing artifacts stolen from the Sanctum. Blade realized they wanted him to lead the mission due to his expertise in what he called "dirty work." At the site, the heroes observed Hydra troops hoisting a large container from the hole, their method for smuggling artifacts from the Sanctum. Blade leapt down the hole, with Hunter following behind. They landed in a tunnel, noticing one of the side passages filled with tendrils from the Sanctum just before Venom appeared and attacked. They couldn't withstand him indefinitely, which prompted Hunter to leap atop Venom and plunge a blade deeply into his chest. Green energy began swirling as a crack appeared in Hunter's collar. They were thrown off Venom and enveloped in a burst of magic before everything went dark. The surge of energy rendered Hunter unconscious but also injured Venom, forcing him to retreat and allowing Blade to rescue Hunter.
Hunter is shocked by the feedback
Days later, Hunter woke up back at the Abbey, finding Caretaker seated beside the bed who explained that they needed to counteract the volatile effect of Venom’s combined alien and mystical energies before another confrontation. Blade admitted being disturbed by what he had witnessed — Hunter crying out for Lilith while surrounded by swirling dark energy — and confessed he had feared Hunter would fall. Tony and Strange required a sample from Venom to analyze how to protect Hunter from the reaction that had occurred during their last encounter. That night, Hunter again dreamed of Lilith, who expressed concern about Hunter's injuries from the battle with Venom, explaining that the explosion resulted from an unforeseen and unintended consequence of their resistance to her. She viewed the crack in Hunter’s collar positively, suggesting it would facilitate throwing "the shackles of her sister's control."
The Symbiote Sampler was completed, and Peter lamented being the only one who truly understood Eddie's situation, while Stark and Strange were making the decisions without him. Others gathered around the Mirror Table when Spider-Man appeared in full costume and proclaimed he had a plan. He and Hunter approached the Sanctum, still covered in tendrils. Banner emerged, followed by Crossbones and Venom. A web blast covered Banner’s mouth, and Venom rushed to attack as Spider-Man swung toward Our Lady of Saints Church and entered its bell tower. Venom burst through, pinning Spider-Man before Hunter knocked Venom into the bell, causing a loud ringing that visibly pained Venom.
Symbiote sample acquired
The heroes battled Venom until Spider-Man struck the bell, producing a resonance that stunned Venom. Spider-Man seized the opportunity to leap onto Venom's back and deploy the Symbiote Sampler. Venom threw Spider-Man off but fell down the shaft and ended up buried beneath debris. The Caretaker congratulated Peter on his successful execution. The next day, Tony announced the sample analysis had succeeded and explained he could create an "anti-Venom" suit using the Symbiote sample. Lilith appeared in Hunter's dreams once more, revealing her awareness of Hunter's imminent arrival at Sanctum Sanctorum and expressing excitement about their reunion. She implored Hunter not to oppose her as she could no longer guarantee their safety, stating her primary concern was for them to finally reunite.
Shattering Expectations[]
Hunter and Lilith reunite in the material world.
Doctor Strange and Tony created a suit which would provide protection against Venom's alien energy signature. Hunter, Blade, and Captain Marvel approached from beneath the Sanctum. Hunter touched a mass of tendrils, purging them and clearing their path. Blade and Captain Marvel urged Hunter to proceed to the Sanctum while they stayed behind to fight Hydra. Inside the Sanctum, Lilith stood next to Banner near a device containing green energy. Spider-Man and Doctor Strange arrived, and Strange warned Lilith that with the Sanctum’s power returning to him, her plundering of his secrets would cease. But that was never the plan, and Banner activated the device, causing energy to erupt outward and creating a breach in the floor from which green energy spheres emerged. Lilith touched one of these spheres and commanded it to "Seek," before she and Banner left through a portal. The Sanctum began to disintegrate, and despite Strange's insistence that he could stabilize it, both Spider-Man and Hunter recognized the folly and pulled him from the building moments before the Sanctum exploded. Outside, they witnessed a pillar of green light extending skyward, which Hunter and Strange identified as a manifestation of Chthon.
The Parchment and Gamma[]
The Sanctum explodes.
The heroes mourned the Sanctum's destruction and acknowledged that Lilith's strength had far exceeded their expectations. Strange and Caretaker explained that the Sanctum's destruction had removed the shield protecting the world from mystical threats that were now penetrating through, with particularly intense activity concentrated at Johnny Blaze and the Quentin Carnival. Caretaker disclosed that Blaze served as guardian of the Parchment of Power, the final page of the Darkhold. Concerned that Blaze might not be able to safeguard the Parchment alone, Hunter responded that he wouldn't remain isolated much longer.
Hunter met Johnny Blaze at the Carnival.
At the Carnival, Sabretooth and Crossbones searched for the Parchment, demanding Blaze surrender the page as Hunter and Wolverine arrived on the scene. Blaze was angry at Hunter, holding them responsible for the attack before leaving Hunter and Wolverine to rescue bystanders caught in the conflict. Blaze came under attack from Sabretooth, and Wolverine intervened to protect Blaze, Sabretooth escaped during the distraction. Hunter and Blaze argued about the importance of preventing the Prophecy of the Midnight Sun before Blaze declared he was finished with the matter and departed. Wolverine meanwhile followed Hunter to the Abbey.
Nico was reading The Book of Thoth, a rare volume left it out for her to find. Within it, Nico had located a passage recounting a Pharaoh driven to madness after reading the Scrolls of Chthon, another name for the Darkhold, potentially representing the first documented case of corruption. Nico asked Hunter to keep this discovery secret, while afterwards Agatha revealed to Hunter that she had deliberately left the book for Nico to find. Caretaker confided in Hunter that their efforts were failing and blamed herself for that. Despite having three teams at the Abbey, they were pursuing their own separate agendas rather than working together. She mourned Agatha's absence and apologized for her behavior without Agatha's support, convening a team meeting.
The Avengers and the Midnight Suns remained at odds with one another.
Caretaker started by acknowledging her uncertainty regarding full attendance and indicated this as the very reason for the meeting. She emphasized that while she and Hunter battled the Mother of Demons, the others remained entangled in trivial disputes. Tony's assertion that the Midnight Suns weren't contributing adequately provoked Nico to counter that the Avengers were actually the ones operating independently. Caretaker admonished them both, noting that the two supposed leaders had effectively demonstrated her point. Caretaker highlighted how Lilith and her followers maintained unity, stressing the absolute need for everyone present to align their efforts in a common direction. Captain America suggested that Hunter should lead them, and they accepted the responsibility.
The Dread Maiden
Carol was operating C.E.N.T.R.A.L. when peculiar errors featuring Latin text appeared, translated as "do not trust the horse, Trojans," which Tony recognized as an alert from one of his father's security protocols indicating unauthorized access to a sensitive project. Iron Man and Hunter immediately departed for the location but quickly realizing that Banner had deliberately triggered the security protocol to lure them there. Banner attempted to persuade Tony to join him in completing Howard's work, but Tony declined. Banner fled, summoning a Dread Maiden. Iron Man apologized for his impulsiveness and proceeded to destroy his father's equipment to erase the information within.
Back at the Abbey, Iron Man explained that his father developed numerous powerful weapons but harbored a particular interest in gamma radiation, dreaming of creating a Gamma Accelerator — a device that would pose extreme danger if Banner succeeded in utilizing Howard's original plans to construct one. Tony revealed his belief that the Gamma Accelerator could potentially destroy the Parchment of Power, prompting Doctor Strange to highlight the significant implication: destruction of the Parchment would render the Prophecy's fulfillment impossible.
Spirits of Vengeance[]
Robbie finally gets a chance to be involved.
Though Magik would normally be capable of reopening a portal to Banner's laboratory using her Soulsword's retained memory, her attempt was thwarted by a demonic energy barrier. Tony suggested the team temporarily abandon efforts to return to the laboratory and prioritize obtaining the Parchment of Power from Johnny Blaze. Strange informed Hunter that the barrier consisted of dark energy similar to Hunter's own. Caretaker, Tony, and Doctor Strange explained to Robbie how he would summon Johnny Blaze. Doctor Strange revealed that the Cuffs of Cyttorak would enable the Mirror Table to access the link Robbie shared with the Spirit of Vengeance and locate Blaze. Upon Strange attaching the Cuffs, Robbie transformed into Ghost Rider, causing the Mirror Table's surface to display mystical flames as Blaze briefly appeared before vanishing.
Blaze reads from the Parchment.
Blaze was racing on his motorcycle, pursued by Hydra vehicles carrying troops led by Crossbones and Sabretooth when Hunter and Robbie arrived in the Hell Ride. As they leapt across the canyon, glowing green chains shot upward from below, latching onto Blaze and dragging him down into the depths. Blaze found himself chained to a rock when the others arrived in the Hell Ride. Blaze managed to break free, but when Hunter demanded that Blaze surrender the Parchment of Power, a horde of Soulless appeared. Blaze claimed he didn't know whom they served — neither Lilith nor Chthon — then pulled out the Parchment and began reading from it, casting a spell that engulfed the area in fire. As the flames subsided, Blaze he jumped onto his motorcycle and sped away, promising to be in touch.
Back at the Abbey, Nico and Magik shared to Hunter that they had finished transcribing the incantation from The Book of Thoth that had cured the first documented case of Lilin corruption. Since corruption could not be destroyed but merely transferred, whoever removed it from Wanda would need to absorb it themselves, leaving Hunter as the only viable candidate, so Nico taught Hunter the incantation and had them commit it to memory. That night, Hunter dreamed of Lilith again, who denounced Blaze as a reckless fool for using the Parchment of Power and warned that the Darkhold possessed a will of its own that enslaved those who attempted to control it. When Hunter challenged Lilith regarding her own use of the book, she responded that she didn't hide her choice and would repeat it countless times if necessary.
Barghest Hunt[]
Magik struggles to open a portal back to Banner's lab.
Blade detected an unfamiliar scent within the Abbey grounds and suspected it might have been a Barghest, a legendary demon dog. Doctor Strange confirmed that Blade's instincts were correct and expressed belief that the creature might serve as the key to penetrating the barrier surrounding the Gamma Lab, requesting that Hunter capture it alive. Wolverine wished to join the hunt and requested that Hunter bring Charlie to assist in tracking. They spotted the Barghest before the red portal, but when it turned and escaped the portal remained open, prompting Blade, Hunter, and Wolverine to pursue. Upon passing through the portal, they found themselves inside a Hydra facility, confirming Strange's suspicions that the Barghest was a product of Hydra experiment rather than a mystical entity. Having subdued the Barghest, the heroes transported it back to the Abbey, where Strange had it secured.
Hunter and Charlie prepare for the fight.
Strange explained that the barrier surrounding the lab permitted only demons to pass, suggesting he could utilize the Barghest to disguise Hunter as a demon. Strange presented the finished suit the following day, explaining that it should enable Hunter to penetrate the demonic barrier. An assembly gathered at the cliffs as Hunter prepared for departure, while Charlie remained unusually attentive since Hunter had donned the suit. As Magik opened the portal against the demonic energy barrier, Hunter stepped through only to have Charlie leap into the portal behind them. Able to traverse it as a hellhound, both arrived inside Banner's facility.
Fallen Scarlet Witch strikes again.
The disguise proved effective; however, when Hunter approached the barrier-generating device, a Hydra Mystic inside alerted the nearby Lilin. After defeating them, Hunter and Charlie witnessed the demonic energy barrier collapse but were forced into a lower area where they discovered the Gamma Accelerator guarded by Fallen Scarlet Witch. She taunted Hunter by suggesting their friends had abandoned them and sent them on this suicide mission, when Magik emerged through a portal and broke her spell. During the battle against the Fallen Scarlet Witch, Hunter absorbed her darkness before reciting the incantation from The Book of Thoth. A vision of red eyes in darkness flickered through their mind while Fallen Scarlet Witch uttered "Chthon" and ascended into the air amid a burst of energy pouring from her body.
Wanda is back.
The heroes returned to the Abbey through a portal, followed by the Gamma Accelerator levitated by Scarlet Witch, now free from Lilith's corruption. Everyone celebrated her return while Agatha observed the joyful scene from a distance. After Wanda went to sleep, Nico and Magik conveyed their gratitude to Hunter, while Caretaker admitted to Hunter that she was wrong in doubting Wanda’s potential for salvation. Lilith visited Hunter's dream again, confessing her surprise at Hunter's success in rescuing Wanda but showing no anger, noting instead that Hunter must have absorbed the darkness and detecting a new crack in their collar.
Limbo and Los Diablos[]
Blaze surrenders the Parchment.
Tony was enthusiastic about the Gamma Accelerator's recovery, while Doctor Strange expressed doubt regarding Tony's apocalypse-prevention plan, believing that only Chthon could stop Chthon. Caretaker and Hunter were at the Mirror Table when it became engulfed in flaming energy, revealing Johnny Blaze who demanded to speak with Robbie and instructed him to bring the Midnight Suns along. As Hunter, Ghost Rider, and Magik prepared to depart, Magik detected something peculiar about the current state of Limbo while opening the portal, prompting her to remain behind and investigate. Hunter and Ghost Rider discovered Blaze waiting beside a church, where he revealed to have formulated a plan and insisted they follow his lead without questioning. Hunter expressed resistance, buy Blaze placate them by producing the Parchment of Power from his own chest and transferring it into Robbie's body.
The Queen of Limbo had words with Mephisto.
As Blaze led them inside the church, they found themselves transported to Limbo instead. Mephisto on the throne welcomed their arrival before Blaze disclosed his betrayal — having struck a bargain to abandon Hunter in Limbo to prevent the prophecy's fulfillment — yet when Robbie refused to depart with him, Mephisto revealed the deal guaranteed safe passage solely for Blaze and teleported him away. Hunter and Ghost Rider faced Mephisto when a voice interrupted from behind — Magik appeared seated upon Mephisto’s former throne, and in her fury, she transported Hunter and Ghost Rider back while staying behind to "catch up" with her tormentor.
At night, Lilith again invaded Hunter's dreams, accusing their companions of abandoning them to Mephisto until Hunter pointed out that Blaze had been the true betrayer while the Suns had rescued them. Lilith attempted to persuade Hunter to surrender the page, claiming Robbie lacked sufficient strength to serve as its Guardian and threatening consequences if she failed to obtain it. Upon awakening, Hunter found everyone discussing the identical dream they had experienced the previous night that involved Hunter and generated considerable alarm among the group. Wanda revealed the disturbing details — something had hurled Hunter the air while their face contorted in agony.
Magik kills Sabretooth at Los Diablos.
Tony showcased the completed Gamma Accelerator and briefed the team on his strategy destroy the supposedly indestructible Parchment of Power with an enormous ray gun, despite Doctor Strange's continued objections that this was impossible. Tony explained that the Los Diablos Missile Base region remained saturated with gamma radiation; he intended to utilize the Gamma Accelerator to absorb this radiation and supercharge it to power his Gamma Cannon, asking everyone present to assist in this undertaking. Ghost Rider and Iron Man arrived at Los Diablos ahead of the others to prepare, with Iron Man readying the Gamma Cannon while Robbie circled the area maintaining a safe distance until the Cannon was prepared for activation. When the others arrived, they saw Sabretooth and a horde of Lilin descending upon them, while Banner and Crossbones surveilled from a helicopter, searching for Ghost Rider and the Parchment.
The Fallen Hulk emerges.
Hunter, Magik, and Wolverine defended the Gamma Collector long enough for it to absorb the necessary gamma radiation, though during the battle Sabretooth managed to pin Wolverine and was poised to deliver a fatal blow when Magik intervened, driving her Soulsword through Sabretooth's back and causing him to disintegrate as one of her portals tore through his body. As Ghost Rider attempted to reach the designated location, the Lilin overturned his vehicle. Robbie lay immobilized when Johnny Blaze appeared and dispatched the Lilin with his shotgun, before reclaiming the Parchment of Power from Robbie. In an act of sacrifice, Blaze propelled his motorcycle directly into the Gamma Cannon's path to destroy the page, but Banner leapt from the helicopter into the blast zone. A tremendous explosion cleared to reveal Fallen Hulk standing triumphantly with the Parchment clutched in his hand. The heroes found themselves overwhelmingly outmatched as the Hulk tossed them about effortlessly while laughing off their most powerful attacks before eventually leaping away to deliver the page to Lilith.
The Champion of the Gods[]
Nico addressed the Midnight Suns and declared it was their moment to take charge following the Avengers' failures. She claimed that the Avengers were at a disadvantage due to the mystical nature of their adversary, making this situation particularly suited to the Midnight Suns' expertise. Robbie organized a memorial service for Johnny Blaze, attended by the Midnight Suns, Peter, Logan, and Doctor Strange as the sole Avenger. Later, everyone gathered around the Mirror Table, prompting Tony to begin assuming command until reminded of his recent failures, causing him to deflect responsibility and suggest Captain America lead instead. Nico interrupted, highlighting a disturbing pattern—from the Sanctum Sanctorum's destruction to the Los Diablos fiasco, every mission under Avengers leadership had ended disastrously; the other Midnight Suns agreed with Nico and announced their intention to handle this mission independently.
Hunter and Lilith meet again in Transia.
At their destination, the Suns discovered Hydra troops guarding Lilith's Tomb. A Hydra helicopter launched missiles toward them, but Nico told the Staff of One to "buy us some time" by immobilizing both enemies and their weapons; she and Magik remained outside to maintain this magical defense while Hunter, Blade, and Ghost Rider ventured inside. They found Lilith channeling Darkhold's power through Fallen Hulk. Direct attacks proved futile against her protective magical barrier, so the heroes shattered the pillars to collapse the tomb. Lilith's barrier held as she continued chanting, leading Caretaker to urgently order their retreat to the Abbey. As they fled, they witnessed Hulk seizing the Darkhold before the entire tomb collapsed upon itself.
The Temple of Chthon
Back at the Abbey, everyone was thrilled to have finally delivered a setback to Lilith. However, back at the tomb, Fallen Hulk clawed his way out of the ground and stood with Lilith as she held the Darkhold aloft, and the Temple of Chthon appeared. Hunter fell to their knees, experiencing this. That night, Hunter's dreams again were visited by Lilith, who declared that with the Darkhold's completion, the prophecy drew near and the truth would soon reveal itself. As Lilith begun reminiscing about Hunter's father, Hunter noted this marked the first time she had mentioned him and expressed gratitude that his death had spared him witnessing what Lilith had become, which visibly affected Lilith.
Gray Seneschal[]
Agatha revealed herself to Wanda.
Hunter woke up at night to find Agatha in their room, distressed that despite all their efforts, the prophecy continued to unfold. Agatha lamented that she could only haunt the Library when she should have been helping unify the team. As Agatha departed, Wanda burst in, having overheard Hunter's conversation with her — marking the first instance someone besides Hunter had detected Agatha's presence. After placating Wanda, Hunter informed Agatha of this development the next day, prompting her to meet with Wanda and reveal the truth. That night, Wanda awaited at Agatha's shrine, demanding answers. Hunter said that Agatha was there; Wanda was unable to see her but did hear her voice. Agatha absolved Wanda of responsibility for her death, explaining that she herself had been at fault for pushing Wanda excessively.
Agatha explained that while she wished to assist in their battle against Lilith, her tenuous connection to their world severely limited her power; however she knew of a ritual that could bind her to this place. It required a memento from Caretaker's quarters, but Agatha cautioned them against alerting Sara to their plan. After retrieving the memento, Hunter and Wanda learned that it was needed for the Gray Seneschal binding ritual from the Libris Inlicitus — a dangerous spell that left the spirit vulnerable for destruction or possession. If successful though, it would enable everyone at the Abbey to perceive Agatha, who emphasized the importance of concealing their plans from Sara due to her knowledge of the ritual's considerable risks and slim chances of success.
Agatha was briefly possessed by Mephisto.
When the Moon Phase was right, Wanda summoned Hunter, the Midnight Suns, Doctor Strange and Logan. The ritual commenced with the group focusing their collective strength — gradually enabling them to perceive Agatha — when Caretaker unexpectedly arrived, having tracked the missing keepsake through magic. Upon recognizing the Gray Seneschal ritual, she angrily rushed forward, breaking the protective boundary and triggering a flash of red energy around Agatha, who was possessed by Mephisto. He offered to release Agatha in exchange for Illyana, but Magik cast a spell that expelled Mephisto from Agatha’s spirit and banished him, restoring Agatha to visibility for all present. The group then left Caretaker and Agatha alone for their reunion.
Project Gottmorder[]
End of the line for Rumlow
Captain America informed the others that communications with Transia revealed that Hydra were preventing civilian evacuation. Crossbones interjected their channel, declaring that Transian civilians would only be permitted to depart if Captain America took their place, a condition to which Cap readily agreed. In Transia, Crossbones ordered a Hydra Gunship to fire on a group of fleeing Transians, but Captain America's Shield deflected the missile. The heroes spotted Crossbones fleeing the scene and discovered he armed one of Faustus' gamma devices, rigged to demolish the bridge and everyone on it, including Crossbones himself. He fired at the device, causing it to overload, but Captain America knocked the bomb off the bridge. Crossbones charged at him, only for both of them to be thrown backward by the explosion. While Crossbones plummeted over the side, Captain America grabbed his hand. Crossbones said to Captain America that the "old man" had kept the secret knowing the consequences of awakening Lilith. Crossbones passed a thumb drive to Captain America with his free hand before pushing away from the bridge, shouting "Hail Hydra" as he fell into the abyss.
Captain Marvel partially deciphered Crossbones' drive, which contained comprehensive files on the vulnerabilities and strengths of both the Avengers and Midnight Suns. An additional section remained inaccessible due to multiple encryption layers. Captain America initially refused dealing with the encrypted files, explaining the "old man" was Red Skull. Cap suspected Crossbones intended to manipulate him into utilizing his oldest enemy’s resources against his newest foe. Steve, Carol, and Logan decrypted documents regarding "Project Gottmorder", Red Skull's project from World War II featuring maps of tunnels and passages leading to an unidentified location. Trusting the intelligence enough to warrant reconnaissance, Steve assigned Logan on the mission.
Touching the Godkiller connected Hunter to Chthon.
Hunter and Wolverine found their target, a room with a vault surrounded by dead Hydra operatives who apparently perished attempting to breach it. They opened the vault, Wolverine's claws dismantling the locking mechanism to reveal a glass-encased dagger — the "Godkiller" — which, upon Wolverine breaking the glass, triggered an alarm. When Hunter grasped the weapon, their eyes turned purple while they experienced a vision of Chthon, but Wolverine broke their trance, and they escaped the facility. Outside, they saw the Temple of Chthon moments before Fallen Hulk attacked, cornering them against a precipitous drop where he stomped the ground, sending the heroes plummeting below, though one of Magik's portals opened mid-air, ensuring their safety.
Wanda returns to Wundagore.
Caretaker informed Hunter that the Godkiller's hilt appeared composed of orichalcum — the same Atlantean metal as Hunter's collar — an apparent impossibility that warranted Doctor Strange's examination. Strange theorized the artifact possessed potential to significantly impact their conflict with Lilith. The team lamented Lilith's imminent consumption of Transia with demonic energy. Captain America brought up the Godkiller, but there was the seemingly insurmountable challenge of deploying it against Lilith with Hulk serving as her guardian. Agatha then appeared, declaring that the most formidable entity on Earth wasn't Hulk but Wanda, prompting Hunter to accompany her to the Temple of Chthon in Transia.
The Strongest One restrained
Ready to unleash her full potential, Scarlet Witch flew to confront Hulk and hurled him into the Temple before suspending him mid-air with magic. Lilith emerged and freed Hulk while attempting to corrupt Wanda again, she feigned susceptibility before blasting Lilith back into the Temple and sealing her within, allowing them to focus on Hulk. Hunter absorbed Hulk's darkness and recited the incantation from The Book of Thoth, successfully transforming Hulk back into Banner and freeing him from Lilith's influence. Caretaker congratulated this accomplishment while warning Hunter about the irreparable nature of the increasingly damaged collar — crafted with the last of her ancestral powers and therefore irreplaceable. Everyone gathered to celebrate, and discussions turned to leveraging Bruce's insights against Lilith.
The Midnight Sun[]
Agatha and Hunter reconfirm each other as the true family.
The next day, everyone observed the ominous green sky outside as Doctor Strange announced the prophecy's impending fulfillment and Caretaker added that Chthon approached their dimension. Bruce explained to Hunter how his obsession with understanding the Hulk had led him to Lilith and revealed that the Abbey was open to her since Wanda first breached its protective barrier, though Lilith restrained from attempting to wipe them out. That evening, Sara explained to Agatha that she was reminded of her sister's mortality. Caretaker expressed regret at failing Hunter in their first battle against Lilith and acknowledged Hunter as her only child, promising not to lose them again. Agatha affirmed that she and Sara considered Hunter their child, revealing decades of inconsolable grief following Hunter's death while expressing conviction that Hunter’s allies would ensure a different outcome this time.
Strange noted the Godkiller's reaction to Hunter's presence, deducing that only Hunter could wield it. Nico organized the last movie night before the end of the world, inviting everyone. That night in Hunter's dream, Lilith explained her decision to sacrifice her soul for Hunter's life, professing her love and inviting Hunter to stand beside her — an offer she promised would remain available even after her inevitable triumph. Strange revealed to Hunter that the Godkiller blade contained a fragment of Chthon himself — sliced off when humanity had banished him from their dimension — noting that Hunter's unique connection to the weapon repelled Strange's own attempts to handle it. Caretaker confirmed her suspicions about the blade's origin, though Strange suggested Lilith might intend to use it to complete Chthon rather than destroy him. Hunter consulted Agatha about the Godkiller, who shared her findings that "only Chthon can kill Chthon".
Time to save the world
Before departing on the final mission, everyone changed into matching team uniforms, Tony claimed it was a collaborative effort initiated by Caretaker. After last words before the battle, Hunter led the team through the portal to the Temple of Chthon. Hulk smashed the gate, releasing green light that transported them to the room from Hunter's dreams, revealed as Chthon's Realm. Lilith appeared and begun welcoming Hunter, but the heroes attacked immediately, prompting her to magically restrain all except Hunter, who slashed her face with the Godkiller and declared it the means to permanently end their conflict. Lilith claimed her intention was not to free Chthon but to destroy him, insisting that Hunter would already be dead were she lying.
Chthon claims his vessel.
Lilith shattered their collar and urged them to embrace their true self. Hunter's eyes turned purple, and they plunged Godkiller into Lilith's back while speaking with Chthon's voice. Chthon revealed that Hunter had become his vessel when Lilith had made her deal, thanking her for removing the collar that was his final obstacle. He required a sacrifice of four souls for four gods to match the original four who had bound him before. Despite the Godkiller embedded in her chest, Lilith managed to free several heroes and plead for their assistance in saving both the world and her child. After a prolonged battle during which Hunter struggled internally, experiencing visions of their friends finally expelled Chthon from them, though the Midnight Sun had arrived. Their last hope was to release the four bound heroes and to establish seals constraining Chthon.
Hunter stays behind with Mother.
