When the Golden Claw was the leader of a Hydra faction, he had a throne on the island with lion statues flanking it. He adopted Madame Hydra as his daughter, who devoted herself to using Hydra to build the Golden Claw an empire. For months her forces scoured the islands of the South China Sea, taking adolescents from villages. They took them to be remade in the in the image of Hydra, killing all those over the age of 20 and under the age of 11, and burning their villages.
Madame Hydra was rebuilding Hydra by using her enslaved followers and the billions in his Swiss bank accounts that the Golden Claw made available to her. Those who passed the training joined the ranks of Hydra, and those who were too weak, were cast into the pit. Having undergone extensive brainwashing, all memories of family and love were erased from the recruits. Which turned them into Hydra fanatics who were in love with death. They were willing to do anything for Madame Hydra.
Within the island was a colossal subterranean complex, a teleportation system capable of teleporting at least three individuals at the same time, and hundreds of Hydra personnel. The island had defenses consisting of directed energy cannons that rose from hidden bays, and Hydra troops had laser guns, sky sleds and similar vehicles. Using a rebuilt S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier to attack the Hydra base, Nick Fury led a force of agents using jetpacks onto the island. After a fierce battle, the forces of Hydra were defeated. Madame Hydra committed suicide and Plan Chu teleported away from the island.[1]
