History

Doctor Doom developed and built this stationary machine to instill hypnotic orders on people. To do so, the device resorted to fluttering lights. The user of the hypnopticon is immune, as are would-be victims with protected visions. The device is short-range[1][2] and had some limitations on the number of commands that could be instilled and the nature of those.[2]

Doom had one hypnopticon installed in his laboratory at the NYC Latverian Embassy[1][2] and tried to use it against Daredevil - but it failed because Daredevil is blind, something Doom ignored at that point. Daredevil attacked Doom, but Doom then used the skirmish to lead his enemy to another trap - the Body-Transferral Ray![1]
