History
Ikthalon was a Demon who symbolized stagnation and resistance to change. He possessed a form of ice and seemed to gravitate towards those who would stymie progress.
He was summoned by a Gateway University professor who was unhappy with some of the changes occurring on campus in the name of modernization. Strange occurrences began happening in the Communications building, including poltergeist-like activity and the brand new furnace breaking down and literally freezing. These events were topped off by several icy beings being sighted and the entire building becoming frozen.
Another faculty member, Katherine Reynolds, hired Daimon Hellstrom to investigate. Daimon agreed to allow Ikthalon free reign on Earth after the demon took Dr. Renyolds hostage. As soon as the demon turned his back on the Son of Satan, however, he blasted Ikthalon with hellfire, apparently melting him, telling the being not to trust the son of the 'great deceiver'.[1]
Despite his apparent destruction, he was used in the invokation of spells by several magic users in the years since this incident.[2]Attributes
Powers
Ikthalon is composed entirely of an ice-like substance and can generate ice and freezing winds. He can use this ability to create several objects out of ice such as an ice cage which he used to trap the Son of Satan, ice spears and giant ice boulders. Like many demons, Ikthalon and his minions can possess human hosts. On Earth, both he and his minions possess the ability to meld into walls or floors in order to conceal themselves.[1]
He is also capable of opening a dimensional portal between Earth and his realm of Boreas, but only when summoned. While in Boreas, he and his icy creations seem immune to even the most potent conventional and magical flames.[1]
He can provide spells to those invoking his name, such as Doctor Strange:
- "Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon"[2]
- "Wrath of the Chill Ikthalon"[3]
