History
Belasco, the Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo, kidnapped the eight-year old Illyana Rasputin and took her to his domain. He promised to train her as his apprentice, but when Illyana became older and gained mutant powers of teleportation, she escaped from him. She came across Stephen Strange and spend a year training under him. Eventually, Belasco had tracked her down again and battled Strange before Illyana had killed him with her Soul Staff. Wishing to retire as Sorcerer Supreme, Strange trained Illyana to be his successor.[2] However, under unknown circumstances she had disappeared beyond the bounds of their universe. Strange spend decades looking for Illyana, never losing hope that she was still alive. Eventually, all other Sorcerers of Earth had died out, and with Strange being the last one left, he had gathered the bones of other sorcerers and used them in a ritual that claimed his life. This was not in vain as Illyana was woken from her slumber by Eternity and returned home to the Sanctum Sanctorum, where she found Strange still waiting for her as a postmortem spirit.[1]
