Synopsis for "God of Doom"

In the Impossible City, Captain America tells Thor to avoid going to Midgard without the Avengers until they're able to prove him innocent for the murders of Dario Agger and the Keep. Seated in Ydalir, Thor concurs and says that he has family business to attend to, hanging up to regard his siblings Angela, Hermod, Laussa, Loki, Balder, Honir the Hunter, and Vidar Giants-Child; who he summoned to meet with him. Explaining what a smartphone is to the confused Vidar, Thor concurs when Honir scornfully dismisses it as a mortal toy, lamenting the trend towards planned obsolescence. Angela invites Thor to go adventuring with her in space, where the technology vastly outstrips that of Earth and is built to last. Hermod fawns over Laussa and is reprimanded by Balder, who asks why Thor summoned them. As Loki uses story magic to narrate, Thor states that he is concerned due to some of the Children of Odin who didn't respond to his summons. On cue, Bragi--clad in a Hawaiian shirt--teleports into the room. Bragi needles Loki for having usurped his place as Asgard's skald since the beginning of the Eighth Cosmos and smugly hijacks the narration with his own story magic, to Loki's shock and outrage. As Thor greets Bragi, the long-absent God of Poetry says that compared to some he's barely been absent at all, cuing the arrival of the god of doom Ullr the Wanderer, who built Ydalir. Manifesting in a surge of purple flames, Ullr castigates Thor for summoning the Children of Odin in his own home and forgetting to invite him. Horrified, Hermod demands to know why Bragi invited Ullr; Bragi smirking as he says that he fears something even more than Ullr--that Tyr is not among them. Thor concurs that Tyr's disappearance is worrisome, especially given his penchant for stirring up trouble in his attempts to usurp the throne of Asgard, and that finding him is the reason why he summoned his other siblings. Angela asks if Sif was unable to find him, Thor revealing that neither she nor his Ravens were able to despite scouring all Ten Realms and the cosmos... before turning to Ullr and surmising that he and Bragi know what happened to Tyr and that he would like to know as well. Advising Thor to be careful what he wishes for, Ullr saying it doesn't matter when Hermod asks whether they should leave Laussa with a caretaker as if they fail they will all die anyway. Angela and Balder note that Laussa is more than what she seems and likely to be the least in-danger of any of them, Ullr concurring as he opens a portal to the realm of the In-Betweener.

Surveilling the endless expanse of Skinner Boxes, Vidar asks if Tyr is inside one. As Balder muses that something more profound must be happening, Ullr says that Vidar is correct but that the one who built the boxes makes things more dangerous than they seem. Ullr turns over the role of exposition to Bragi, who explains in verse that when the Seventh Cosmos became the Eighth it underwent a fundamental shift due to its creator having been a scientist, with the Abstract Entities being categorized into opposed sets of two--magic fighting science, chaos fighting order, time fighting space, etc. These entities, who are as far above the mightiest gods as the gods are above mortal ants, act through intermediaries, and the master of this realm is the intermediary for Master Order and Lord Chaos -- the In-Betweener. Loki scoffs that Bragi could have saved time without having to rhyme, Bragi mocking Loki for having rhymed themselves before noting that the God of Stories has remained suspiciously tight-lipped since Thor revealed he was looking for Tyr. Leaning in close, Bragi challenges Loki to reveal the secret they've kept hidden from their siblings, Loki begrudgingly revealed that they imprisoned Tyr inside a Skinner Box. As Thor rounds on them, Loki indignantly protests that they arrested Tyr for having unleashed the spawn of the Anti-All known as the Røkkva on Midgard and Asgard, Bragi needling Loki by using story magic to reveal he knows the real reason they captured Tyr. As Thor expresses irritation at Loki sniping at Bragi to shut up, Loki says that Tyr escaped with help from the Dreamqueen and Ares, so Loki tossed him in a Skinner Box reasoning it'd be harder to escape from. Loki scoffs that the others can free Tyr if they want but not to blame them when he goes wrong again, only to be jumpscared by Ullr, who says that it's too late for that, as the Skinner Boxes are connected to Oblivion and brainwash those trapped inside into serving him. Saying he will have words with Loki later, Thor asks Angela and Honir if they can use their abilities as gods of the hunt to track Tyr's location. Angela laments that for all her training amongst the Angels of Heven she cannot sense Tyr, Honir stating that he's sensing Tyr from two opposite directions, one further away than the other. When the other gods wonder how that could be, Honir says he can't elaborate, Angela hypothesizing that Tyr has somehow been split into two. Surmising that the further location will be more dangerous, Thor brings Loki, Angela, and Balder with him before asking if Loki and Bragi can communicate telepathically using their skald magic, both confirming that's the case. Telling them to cease their quarrel lest Tyr form a pact with a dark entity exponentially more powerful and dangerous than the Røkkva, Thor leads his team. Bragi wonders if Thor's path is really the more dangerous of the two before turning to Ullr, who says he goes to confront doom and a true death.

Arriving at the Skinner Box where Tyr is imprisoned, Hermod hands Laussa over to Vidar, assuming he won't fit inside and that an infant will be no match against an entity like Oblivion. Deciding to scout ahead, Vidar notes that the box is bigger on the inside and looks around for Tyr, spotting him sitting cross-legged with a new clawed left hand emitting an eerie green-white glow.
