Synopsis for "Part Five: Meditations on the X"

Shortly after the siege of Jerusalem, Exodus wanders the desert, unsure whether he is merely remembering past events or if they are occurring in real time. Delirious, he suddenly sees the Phoenix appear before him. Realizing he is remembering, his consciousness suddenly snaps and he is now in a meeting of the Quiet Council, though still with the nagging sensation that he is remembering.

Destiny informs the council that her visions have coalesced and now clearly point to a coming war with the Eternals. Professor X shares the latest findings gathered by Forge, which ties Mr. Sinister's disappearance to the Celestials. As the council begins to discuss what to do, Exodus shares what he knows of the Eternals before suddenly snapping back to his memories of the past.

NOw, he remembers his first encounter with Apocalypse. After administering harsh trials to the near dead Exodus, he declared him worthy and empowered him, offering him a new path as his acolyte, though only if he first killed Garrington, his loyal companion and the man closest to him. He first fights off the Eternal Sersi, stealing knowledge of her people during their telepathic duel. Rather than kill Garrington however, Exodus turns on Apocalypse and is buried alive, trapped in stasis.

His memory of Sersi's mind suddenly causes him to realize what is happening; the Quiet Council are under attack by the Eternals, who have launched a psychic assault on the council through the Uni-Mind, trying to paralyze them by losing them in their own memories. Before Exodus can break their hold on him, he is hurled back into memory once again, now to the time when Magneto first discovered and awoke him from his sleep. The fanatical Exodus believed him to be a messiah come to guide him, and served him loyally before realizing that the flawed Magneto was not the messiah he sought.

Exodus finally awakens in the present, as the council launch a counterattack against the Eternals. Exodus reminisces once more, to the time shortly after the Decimation, when only 200 mutants were left alive and the species was heading towards extinction. Crushed by the seeming failure of all he had believed in, Exodus travelled to the Sun and attempted suicide. Just before the fires of the Sun claimed him, he remembered seeing the Phoenix in the desert nearly 1000 years earlier, and returned to Earth, certain that hope was not lost. He was proven right, as Hope Summers, the mutant messiah, was born and used the Phoenix Force to reverse the Decimation.

Exodus, having passed out from the strain of fighting the Uni-Mind, is helped up by Hope. Spurred on by his faith in Hope, Exodus tells her to tend to the resurrections of those falling in battle against the Eternals, while he turns his attention to the invading Hex, boldly declaring himself to be a knight fighting dragons.
