Synopsis for "Hulk vs. Dracula (Part 1)"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula #1
This story occurs after the events of Fear Itself #5...

The Hulk has been possessed by the Hammer of Nul, turning him into a creature of rage and fear. Flying across the Earth, the Hulk crashlands in the nation of Romania, much to the fright of the locals. He then begins tearing across the forests near the Carpathian Mountains. His path of destruction attracts the Krieger garrison, an elite team of Vampires charged with protecting Castle Dracula. The commanding officer on the scene figures he can reason with the Hulk and when the gamma-spawned monster arrives, he attempts to tell him that the Vampire Nation has no quarrel with him and will allow him safe passage through their domain provided he doesn't cause any harm to Dracula's people. The Hulk responds by knocking the vampire's head off with his hammer. As the soldiers open fire, the Hulk begins trashing the fortification. Not far away Captain Luna observes the situation and transmits the carnage via video feed to Dracula. Although this is a slaughter of his men, the Lord of the Vampires concludes that they have given them vital information, that the Hulk cannot be bargained with. As Legate begins amassing soldiers to fight back, Janus provides intel to his father about the Hulk. He explains that the Hulk, along with other superhumans have been further empowered by mystical hammers and have since been going on a seemingly random path of destruction across the Earth and so far, nobody has been able to stop them.

Dracula orders his minions that their primary focus is on finding a means to stop the Hulk. With a lot of distance between their foe and the castle, Dracula plans to throw everything at the brute in the hopes of finding some kind of weakness. First, a group of Charniputra are sent out to confront the Hulk. Despite having the advantage of flying, these gargoyle-like creatures are no match for the Nul empowered Hulk, who easily slaughters them. Captian Luna reports back the failure of the creatures. However, her presence is discovered by the Hulk who tosses some rocks at her plane causing sufficient damage to make it crash. Back at the castle, Dracula is going over the data and is unimpressed that the best his technicians can tell him is that the Hulk is stronger than usual. Suddenly, his chambers are intruded by the rogue vampire known as Raizo Kodo and his followers, the Forgiven. Before the sect leaders can attack these exiles, Dracula orders his minions to stand down as he realized that Raizo has come to fight by their side. Still, Dracula insists that Kodo and his followers must be taught a lesson as to who is in charge and orders them to the dungeon. Visigoth of the Forgiven protests this, but his teammate Inka tells him to calm himself. Kodo insists that this is unnecessary, but Dracula isn't moved and the Forgiven willingly allow themselves to be imprisoned.

Down in the dungeon, Visigoth questions why they have allowed themselves to be imprisoned when they can easily break free. Sanjay explains it for their leader, he tells Visigoth that their current incarceration is the beginning of the slow process of negotiations with Dracula. Upstairs, Janus tells his father that an alliance with Raizo Kodo might be prudent given the current situation. However, Dracula won't hear of it and will deal with Raizo once the Hulk has been defeated. To this end, Dracula has a fleet of bombers drop an army of monsters to battle the Hulk.

Skaar: King of the Savage Land #1
A warrior of the Fall People flees from a pair of tyrannosaurus rex when he is saved by Skaar, who has just recently made his home in the Savage Land. He knocks one down, prompting the other to flee. Skaar then begins wrapping vines around the dinosaur's maw like a bridle. He is approached by Shanna the She-Devil and her son Matthew. Shanna tells Skaar that if he wanted a dinosaur to ride, she and Ka-Zar could have provided one. However, the Son of Hulk has no interest in riding a broken best. He mocks them for not being savage enough and wonders how they could survive, especially since Shanna is playing babysitter for a young boy. Shanna explains that this is her son, and that she brought him to meet Skaar since they are roughly the same age. Suddenly, the t-rex wakes up and gets up and runs off, knocking Skaar over. He realizes too late that the vines he was using are wrapped around his leg, and he gets dragged through the jungle. The t-rex comes across another dinosaur and begins fighting and it gets knocked off a cliff. Skaar can do nothing as he is dragged over the edge himself.

Meanwhile, in the village of the Fall People, Ka-Zar addresses a delegation of tribal elders of the Savage Land and the United Nations. He has called them together to convince them that they have nothing to fear from the outside world. He suggests that they can profit from making international treaties with other nations. This is met with protest from Truvon, the elder of the Fall People. He tell them all that being tainted by the outside world was the very reason why the Savage Land was hidden and tells the other elders to not leave the decisions of their lands with someone who was not even born there. He mocks Ka-Zar for wearing a suit, tells him that he is a child of two worlds, but does not have the blood of the Savage Land in his veins. He tells Ka-Zar that he has forgotten the origins of the Savage Land if he ever truly understood them.

At that moment, Skaar wakes up at the bottom of the chasm he fell into. Trapped with no way back up, Skaar has no other choice but venture into a tunnel in the hopes it will lead him back up to the surface. He sees something emitting sparks at the other end of the tunnel, Skaar calls out a warning to whatever it is, of his strength and power. While at the top of the chasm, Shann and Matthew have caught up and call out to their newfound ally. Shanna assures her son that Skaar is too powerful to perish from such a fall, but knows that he usually finds trouble. Suddenly, Skaar is knocked out of the pit by a massive robot. The robot is trying to destroy Skaar in order to protect a ship he is guarding. Skaar regains his footing and knocks the robot back down the hole, sending it crashing into the ship. This damages a containment unit that causes a strange red mist to seep it out. Rejoicing of its freedom, this mist is happy to find itself back in its hope. Rising out of the pit, the mist then takes possession of Shanna's body. This being then begins to cry as it's creation, the Savage Land, belongs to him.

While back at the Tribal Council citadel, Ka-Zar is on the balcony with his faithful sabretooth tiger, Zabu. He confides in the tiger that the longer he spends in the Savage Land, the more civilized he becomes, spending more time in council meetings than living off the land. His thoughts are interrupted by Artur who tells him that there is a situation of his wife. He rushed back down to the council room and is horrified to see his wife is slaughtering the UN deligates. The being possessing Shanna pronounces that the Savage Land belongs to it. Back out in the jungles, Skaar continues to battle the robot, which he learns was trying to contain something called the Designer. With the Designer now free, the robot tries to incapacitate the Son of Hulk with a powerful jolt of electricity. This does little to stop Skaar, but before the battle begins they are interrupted by Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur. Moon Boy pronounces that they are the most savage of the Savage Land.

Hulk (Vol. 2) #37
Following his last clash with the Red Hulk, MODOK Superior finishes rejuvenating himself. He begins a recording his thoughts about his origins and the many options he has in terms of his role in the world. However, before he makes a decision on this he has decided to stop the one roadblock in his way: Thaddeus Ross, the Red Hulk. After his failed attempt at destroying the Hulk using Zzzax he realizes that he was approaching the situation like his predecessor and as such needs to change tactics. He consults his Life-Model Decoys to learn what he can about Thaddeus Ross. They report that the Red Hulk seems to care a great deal for Annie, his LMD assistant. Going over the biometric scans of the battle, MODOK Superior also notes that a strange cloaked figure was observing the battle, invisible to the naked eye. This being then followed the Red Hulk back to New York City where the Red Hulk has been staying as a member of the Avengers.

At that moment at Avengers Tower, the Avengers butler Edwin Jarvis is stitching up Mockingbird's arm after a scuffle with rioters. They are soon joined by Hawkeye who has just returned from calming a riot that broke out in Central Park. With the world being caught up a wave of fear mongering that started when the strange objects that fell from the sky, Mockingbird notes that everyone has left the city to investigate except for the Future Foundation, who have been checking out the object that dropped in Manhattan. Next, they get alerted of an apparent Nazi attack on Washington, D.C. With Commander Rogers out on the front lines, Hawkeye fears that they will be unprepared if the attack reaches New York without any of the Avenger's heavy hitters. Suddenly, the building begins to shake, alerting Hawkeye and Mockingbird to the arrival of the Red Hulk. He explains that Rogers sent him back to New York to help here while the others went to Washington.

Suddenly, a building begins to collapses nearby, prompting the Red Hulk to leap off to help those in danger. Hawkeye and Mockingbird return to the control room and order the building evacuated. They then check on the Future Foundation and are horrified to see that the Thing has been transformed into a powerful menace thanks to the Hammer of Angrir, the object that fell from the sky. They also become aware of a horde of invaders heading toward the city, making them realize that they are in big trouble. At that same moment, in the sewers, MODOK Superior and his LMDs are heading into the field. Along the way, one of the units informs MODOK that the attack is being led by Sin, the daughter of the Red Skull, who has also managed to harness ancient Asgardian weapons. MODOK determines that he does not have enough data to consider an alliance and asks his units to scan the crater where the object fell. They pull up a holographic image of the Thing. Seeing how the hero has been transformed by the Hammer of Angrir and is shocked by what he has seen.

On the surface, people are in a panic over the appearance of the Thing. However, before he can attack the people he is approached by the Red Hulk, who tells him to put the hammer down and surrender. When the Thing refuses to comply, the two come to blows. As the Red Hulk is viciously beaten by the Thing, MODOK is astonished by the power involved. He is also concerned as to why the Red Hulk isn't using his energy absorption powers. As the Red Hulk and Thing battle it out, MODOK quickly realizes that the Red Hulk must have discovered that this ability will burn out his ability to transform and is puzzled that Ross would value his humanity over his power. Elsewhere Zero/One is observing the battle and is surprised to see it when the Thing knocks the Red Hulk into Avengers Tower, causing it to collapse. Jacob Feinman asks Zero/One if they should get to a safe distance, but Zero/One wants to continue close observation. She then advises Black Fog to get ready as she intends to get him within striking distance. Detecting the approach of Zero/One's ship, MODOK Superior decides to go into the field as he wishes to see the end of the Red Hulk. While on the surface, the Red Hulk is pinned under tons of rubble as both the Thing and Black Fog come in for the kill.
