The Inner Planes are a series of dimensions closely tied to the Earthly plane. Some of these dimensions are inhabited by the Gods of Earth, (such as Asgard and Olympus), wizards, dragons, and ducks.
Though the Inner Planes are mystical in nature, they are composed of the same elemental components (earth, wind, fire, and water) that make up the physical planes. The individual Inner Planes appear similarly to Earth, and as such, obey similar physical laws because they were formed with materials from the Earthly plane.[2]
History
Origins[]
The first four Inner Planes were created by four surviving Elder Gods of Earth: Chthon, Set, Gaea, and Oshtur.[3] When Set and Chthon were banished from Earth by the Demogorge, the two created their own realms that were connected to Earthly plane to continue their influence on the planet, forming the Serpent's Sea and K'lay respectively. Oshtur, having returned from her journey through the cosmos and other dimensions, learned of what had happened to her fellow gods and formed her own realm, the Astral Plane, to not leave Gaea vulnerable to the banishment spell. So that she could could visit her sister easily, Gaea formed the realm of Avalon.[2]
Though there is deep enmity between the Elder Gods, the four worked together to create the Crossroads, a "neutral ground" dimension where they could meet without conflict.[2][3]
Gods of Earth[]
After Atum slaughtered the remaining Elder Gods, he took to the skies and purged the demonic energies from his body, seeding the heavens with "godstuff" before he merged with the sun.[4] When the Gods of Earth were birthed, each pantheon formed a God Realm within the Inner Planes in a desire to remain close but separate from their worshipers.[2]Points of Interest
