History

In his prime, Iosef was a shooting instructor at the Red Room Academy, one of his students was Natasha Romanova, the Black Widow.

Young Iosef

Now old, Iosef lived in the Russian wilderness, keeping tabs on the newly cemented Dark Room Academy, founded by the daughter of the Red Room's former Headmistress, Recluse.

When Black Widow returned to the abandoned Red Room looking for old files, Iosef assisted her from a distance in subduing Dark Room agents who had been tipped of her arrival. He later rescued Natasha from the Red Room's catacombs when she had been attacked and stabbed by a young Dark Room operative, he sutured her wounds and took her to his cabin where she rested for three days.

Once she wake up, Iosef informed her about the Dark Room, and directed her to it. He additionally briefly trained her in the use of the type of antiquated weapons the Dark Room's agents wouldn't be prepared for.

Iosef was later attacked at his own house by Recluse in order to lure Black Widow. He was fatally shot and died in Natasha's arms, with his final wish being that she put an end to the Dark Room once and for all.
