Synopsis for "The Night Phantom Walks!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Iron Man #14
In Haiti, Night Phantom conducts a destructive campaign against construction and power plants, including Tony Stark's Project Caribbean. Although reluctant to visit Haiti because Janice Cord is there visiting family friend Travis Hoyt, Stark investigates. With police representative Inspector Christophe, he peruses the remains of Project Caribbean, but Night Phantom attacks them. Happening upon the scene, Janice takes Stark to Hoyt's house, while Christophe pursues Night Phantom. Hoyt, embittered against technology after a crippling accident, drives Stark away. Janice's resultant quarrel with Hoyt culminates in him abducting her through a subterranean passage. Janice dislodges what proves to be a plastic mask of Hoyt's original face, revealing Hoyt as Night Phantom. Telling his origin, he adds that his sabotage campaign is intended to prevent recent construction from causing the underground pool to drain away. Arriving at the pool, where he previously imprisoned Christophe, he tries to immerse Janice. However, Iron Man, who tracked signs of Night Phantom's struggle with Christophe, bursts in and attacks. Hoping to gain more power, Night Phantom dives into the pool, but the already weakened ground collapses beneath him, and he is pulled underground with the last of the waters.

Synopsis for "Said the Unicorn to the Ghost...!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Iron Man #15

Luring the Unicorn to his lab, the Red Ghost fixes his equipment and restores his powers. Claiming the Unicorn needs injections that stop the hyper-activator's deadly effect, the Ghost blackmails the Unicorn into stealing Tony Stark's new Cosmic Ray Intensifier, secretly needing it to restore his own faded powers. Later, Tony Stark and Janice Cord attend Cord Manufacturing's reopening party. Jasper Sitwell reminds Stark that they're due at SHIELD'S Nevada testing ground in the morning and they leave before Janice can introduce new head scientist Alex Niven. As Stark and Sitwell rocket to the test site the Unicorn attacks, blowing a hole in the aircraft's side.

After pushing a parachuted Stark out, Sitwell fights the Unicorn. Changing into Iron Man, Stark watches the craft crash. As he flies towards the Unicorn's energy signature, two apes attack him. Meanwhile, the Red Ghost uses the intensifier on himself. When Iron Man crashes in with the apes, the Red Ghost empowers them as well, then turns into mist, the unpredictable cosmic rays having given him slightly different abilities from before. Before escaping, the Red Ghost reveals his plan to create a super-ape army and detonates his lab with Iron Man and the Unicorn still inside.

Synopsis for "Of Beasts and Men!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Iron Man #16
Fury and Jones learn of the Unicorn's attack and investigate the nearby explosion to find scraps of Iron Man's armor. With their equipment damaged in the explosion, Iron Man and Unicorn team up to follow the Red Ghost to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s African science station, which the Red Ghost has penetrated in fog form, then subdued using an ape army gathered by Alpha, now possessing cosmic-ray enhanced strength, and Beta, who has mental control abilities. As the Ghost completes his boosted Ultra Cosmic Ray Intensifier, Iron Man and Unicorn attack, but are overpowered. However, when the Red Ghost tries to activate his device to empower his primate army, Beta mentally stops him, telepathically revealing his enhanced intellect rejecting the Ghost's plans for power. Beta orders Alpha to destroy the Intensifier, and the apes return to the jungle. Unicorn abducts the Red Ghost, leaving Iron Man behind to repair his armor.
