History
The MK VII armor is the seventh version of Tony Stark's Iron Man armor. It was fabricated at Stark Tower following several incidents that heavily damaged Stark's Mark VI armor.[1]
Stark used this suit as his main armor, and even used it when he went to have a few drinks with Rhodey Rhodes. When Tony suffered a panic attack, he used this armor to make J.A.R.V.I.S. check on him quickly.
The armor was destroyed along with the original Hall of Armor when Stark's Malibu Mansion was attacked by A.I.M..[2]
Capabilities[]
This armor is powered by a miniaturized arc reactor, like every previous Iron Man armor. Apparently carrying all the capabilities of the MK VI, the MK VII also has one distinguishing feature that sets it apart: a self-propelled rocket pod form that seeks out the wearer of a matched pair of bracelets, then opens and reforms around the person as a fully functional Iron Man suit. Other notable differences in the Mark VII armor include the following:
- Improvement of the hand mounted laser emitters developed for the MK VI. They appear to draw their power directly from the arc reactor, as they are now able to fire continuously in combat.
- The flares and forearm missile launcher originally used in the MK III have been re-added.
- The shoulders of the MK VII are capable of launching mini air-to-air rockets with apparent homing capabilities.
- The legs of the MK VII now store several missiles.
The Mark VII shows additional thrusters both on the back and the front, hidden under plating. This presumably allows the Mark VII to reach greater speeds, and frees the hand repulsors to be used more frequently and effectively during combat.[1]

Notes
- This suit was designed by Phil Saunders, who previously designed the MK III armor for Iron Man along with Adi Granov, according to himself, it was the only design of his that made into the film "untouched".[4]
- This armor has reverted to the circular plastron aperture, rather than the triangular one of the MK VI, due to Joss Whedon's preference for the circle. Whedon has asserted that a circle means something, while a triangle does not.
Trivia
- J.A.R.V.I.S. mentions that the MK VII armor was not yet complete before Tony Stark used it. Given its considerable arsenal, it is unknown what additional functions or improvements would have been made before it was considered finished. Taking into consideration Stark's dismissive command to "skip the spinning rims," it's likely that he considered any additional improvements to be cosmetic only, however.[1] In later appearances, no upgrades were seen in this suit, possibly because Tony put his efforts in building more suits instead of upgrading his old armors.[2]
