History

Following his return to the United States after having being a prisoner of the Mandarin for eight months, Tony Stark fell into a state of depression. So, he decided to take a vacation to clear his mind and come up with new ideas. Due to his unconventional nature, Tony decided to choose space as his destination. He created a space armor that could sustain himself long enough to come back energized.[2]

15-year-old M.I.T. student Riri Williams would later manage to reverse-engineer the technology of the Model 41 and post its schematics online. She also used this armor as the basis to create her prototype Ironheart Armor.[3]

Overview[]

The Model 41 armor focuses on sustainability in the harsh environment of space. It is designed to recycle everything its user's body requires, being perfectly capable of sustaining a person for several weeks.[2]

Notes

  • In 2018, the "Many Armors of Iron Man" variant cover series for Tony Stark: Iron Man #1 bumped up the numeric designation of several of the 20 armors it spotlighed due to the Model 13 being split into 13 and 14. One of these suits is the Bleeding Edge Armor, which was reclassified as Model 38 after having previously been officially identified as the Model 37. However, the Black and Gold Armor retained its previously established designation of Model 42, leaving only three vacant numbers (39, 40 and 41) for the four previously-officially designated suits between it and the Bleeding Edge Armor. Due to the limited scope of the cover series making it impossible to determine the full extent of changes in numeration, the Marvel Database will prioritize the previous numbering, which stemmed from the Iron Manual TPB and All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe.
