Synopsis for "A Thing that Bores from Within..."

In L.A., Iron Man rescues a woman who has been taken hostage from a man with a gun. He manages to grab the man's gun and crushes it and is thanked by the woman he rescued who requests to buy dinner for the man beneath the armor.

Back at the headquarters for Circuits Maximus, Clytemnestra is telling Morley and Tony about a new contract from Fetison Electronics thanks to Osgood Fetison's familiarity with Stark. He muses about the strained relationship between him and Rhodes wondering if Rhodes thinks he'll ask for the armor back.

Back in Los Angeles, Rhodes shows up with flowers at the apartment of the woman he rescued. He is obviously tense and she tries to get him to relax but their date ultimately does not go well and Rhodes is offended by her pity of him.

At the Fetison Electronics Headquarters, the Termite breaks through the floor of the headquarters and damages some equipment. A representative for the company is later speaking with Clytemnestra and explains how hopeless the situation is but she assures him that she can use Iron Man to guard their equipment.

Rhodes returns to the Circuits Maximus headquarters and talks about wishing the armor had a magnetic feature and Tony reminds him that it already does. Later while guarding Fetison Electronics, he encounters the Termite. The Termite begins destroying equipment but Iron Man shuts him in the room after taking his gloves, assuming them to be the source of his burrowing power. Termite escapes easily since his power is actually derived from his mutant powers and Iron Man scolds himself for his carelessness. Termite speaks to Obadiah Stane, revealed to be his employer, and speaks of his Iron Man encounter.

Back at Circuits Maximus, Tony recommends that Rhodes check beneath the Fetison building to search for the Termite. Rhodes flies off angrily but admits to himself that the idea is sound and discovers an underground tunnel created by the Termite. He finds him hiding there but the building's foundation begins to suddenly collapse and he is forced to address it by plugging it with a Volkswagen Beetle. He struggles to apprehend the Termite and ultimately, the Fetison headquarters collapses.

After returning to Circuits Maximus, he discovers a piece of armor that Stark had been working on which resembles the Iron Man chest plate and angrily throws it against the wall.
