Synopsis for "The Insurgent Iron Man - Part One: Another Man's Freedom Fighter"
In the desolate, snow-covered expanse of Dagestan, Tony Stark arrives by car at a run-down village to meet the Latverian Patriotic Front and its leader, Commander Hunyadi. They cheer for a Latveria free of Doctor Doom—now the emperor of the world—but tensions quickly rise due to Hunyadi's callousness and his disappointment that Stark seemingly brought no Iron Man armor, only a briefcase. Instead, Tony hands him credentials to a bottomless cryptocurrency wallet for funding. Unimpressed, Hunyadi leads him outside to a hostage, bagged and kneeling before a camera. After explaining the origin of his alias—taken from the Hungarian liberator John Hunyadi—the commander unveils the captive, Vishte Taru, a former LPF member who broke ranks. He orders Stark to kill Taru to prove his allegiance, warning that Doom will not be overthrown innocently. Stark refuses, demanding to hear the LPF's plan first.
Back in Hunyadi's lodge, the commander unveils his strategy: to destabilize Doom's regime by arming his allies within the Latverian Army with Stark missiles. Despite clashing with Tony over Stark's disdain for weapons manufacturing, Hunyadi explains that Stark would smuggle the missiles into Latveria under the pretense of selling them to Doom. As Tony balks at the idea, Hunyadi clarifies that the missiles would remain in his allies' depots until the LPF lays siege to Doomstadt, banking on the populace's devotion to their military to loosen Doom's grip. Tony pauses for a moment and contemplates, but the conversation is interrupted when an explosion rips through the lodge wall. The Winter Guard has arrived to capture Stark on behalf of Emperor Doom.
Before Crimson Dynamo can seize Stark's briefcase, Tony summons it with a magnetic pull from his watch, encasing himself in a new and improved iteration of his Improvised Armor. Wielding the Repulsword, he cuts through most of the Winter Guard before blasting the Red Widow with a repulsor blast. Ursa Major grabs onto Tony, but Iron Man flies into the air before tasing him. As the Red Widow warns Hunyadi against trusting Stark, she's sniped with an electric charge by the Black Widow. Surprised by her arrival, Tony flies toward Natasha to make their escape. To his confusion, she explains that she is trying to save Tony from himself, after which she directs Stark to a Quinjet nearby. With Crimson Dynamo and Vanguard in pursuit, Tony instructs Natasha to grab the Repulsword. Tony takes a steep turn to rescue a fleeing Taru before Romanoff uses the weapon to knock down their pursuers.
Aboard the Quinjet, Natasha chastises Tony and expresses concern for him for aligning with terrorists, but he insists that the odds favor Doom, echoing Hunyadi's assertion that Doom will not be overthrown innocently. Acknowledging the LPF's flaws, Tony argues they are the only viable Latverian opposition. Natasha urges him to trust the Avengers instead, and he acquiesces. However, when Tony later addresses the Board of Directors at Stark Tower, he shocks his colleagues with the announcement that Stark Unlimited will become Emperor Doom's sole weapons provider.
