History
Jacob was an orphan. When his mutant powers manifested he lost ability to physically touch anything. He enrolled into the Xavier Institute, and the X-Men tried to help him control his powers. Kitty Pryde gave him advises based on her own experience, but none of them helped. Beast then discovered that Jacob's body hadn't turned intangible, it was quickly dissolving, transforming into air, and unfortunately they had no way to reverse or at least stop the process. Emma Frost confirmed via telepathy what Jacob, in fact, had already realized his own condition and accepted his death. Jacob felt content to spend his final hours with Kitty. As he never saw a sunrise before, they went to a pier to wait for it. Unfortunately, by the time the sun rose Jacob had already completely dissolved.[1]

His power forced molecules of his body to slam into each other and in result the attraction between compounds was weakening and his body was sublimating, turning into air. He was unable to control this process, and lost ability to physically touch anything. Eventually his body had fully dissolved into air.[1]
