History

Origins[]

James "Logan" Howlett is a mutant who has been living for a century and a half, and has spent almost his entire life fighting with another mutant with similar abilities nicknamed Sabertooth, who was willing to turn his life into hell by killing Logan's loved ones. Abducted by scientists of a secret organization dubbed Weapon X, Logan was subjected to horrific experiments in their attempts to engineer a perfect soldier. His mutant healing allowed his captors to reinforce his entire skeleton with Adamantium, an indestructible metal, and forge him into an almost unstoppable weapon. His memories were erased to turn him into a tool of the government, but over time he has remembered his past life, joining the X-Men.[1]

In the 1980s, Logan was staying in the Abbey with Sara and Agatha Harkness. They were attacked by the Salem Seven who felt that Agatha had betrayed witchkind by living among the humans and intended to drag her over to New Salem by force. Wolverine helped the women keep the Salem Seven at bay long enough for Agatha to cast a spell that banished them.[1]

In the 2020s Sara decided to reassemble the Midnight Suns. AsWanda Maximoff was recruiting Magik, Sara and Logan watched from the sides.[2] Later, Logan was tracking Sabretooth who was after the bounty placed on Hunter. After Sabretooth ambushed them, Wolverine revealed himself and engaged Sabretooth. Hunter and Wolverine emerged victorious, though when Hunter hesitated to deliver the killing blow, Sabretooth seized the opportunity and sank his teeth into Hunter's neck, triggering a burst of energy that forced him to retreat. Wolverine pursued his enemy but failed to locate him.[1]

Hunter and Wolverine later met again at the Quentin Carnival when it was attacked by the Army of Lilith, now including Sabretooth. When they arrived, Johnny Blaze blamed the attack on them before leaving Hunter and Wolverine to rescue bystanders caught in the conflict. Blaze came under attack from Sabretooth, and Wolverine intervened to protect Blaze, Sabretooth escaped during the distraction. Blaze declared he was finished with the matter and departed, Wolverine meanwhile followed Hunter to the Abbey and joined the fight against Lilith.[1]

Wolverine asked to join the hunt for the Barghest and requested that Hunter bring Charlie to assist in tracking. They joined Blade and spotted the Barghest before the red portal, but when it turned and escaped the portal remained open, prompting Blade, Hunter, and Wolverine to pursue. Upon passing through the portal, they found themselves inside a Hydra facility, confirming Doctor Strange's suspicions that the Barghest was a product of Hydra experiment rather than a mystical entity. Having subdued the Barghest, the heroes transported it back to the Abbey, where Strange had it secured.[1]

Tony Stark planned to destroy the Parchment of Power with the Gamma Accelerator at Los Diablos Missile Base. Hunter, Magik, and Wolverine defended the Gamma Collector long enough for it to absorb the necessary gamma radiation. During the battle Sabretooth managed to pin Wolverine and was poised to deliver a fatal blow when Magik intervened, driving her Soulsword through Sabretooth's back and causing him to disintegrate as one of her portals tore through his body. Logan later commented on how he felt no reason to celebrate Sabretooth's death since he wasn't the one to do it. Later, at a memorial service for Johnny Blaze who had sacrificed himself, Logan bluntly characterized Blaze as difficult but effective.[1]

When decrypted documents revealed "Project Gottmorder", Red Skulls project from World War II featuring maps of tunnels and passages leading to an unidentified location, Captain America assigned Logan on the mission. Hunter and Wolverine found their target, a room with a vault surrounded by dead Hydra operatives. From an elevated position. They opened the vault, Wolverine's claws dismantling the locking mechanism to reveal a glass-encased dagger — the Godkiller — which, upon Wolverine breaking the glass, triggered an alarm. When Hunter grasped the weapon, their eyes turned purple while they experienced a vision of Chthon, but Wolverine broke their trance and they escaped the facility. Outside, they saw the Temple of Chthon moments before Fallen Hulk attacked, cornering them against a precipitous drop where he stomped the ground, sending the heroes plummeting below, though one of Magik's portals opened mid-air, ensuring their safety.[1]

Wolverine joined the others in the final confrontation with Lilith at the Temple of Chthon, which ended with the threat being dealt with, at the cost of losing Hunter to the Darkhold.[1]
