History
When Maestro first conquered the Sakaar region of Primary Earth, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Jim Rhodes and Valkyrie organized a revolt against his tyrannical rule. Unfortunately, it ended in disaster. Using a gladiatorial control disk, Maestro temporarily took control of the Hulk, making him lose control and kill Tony. The rest were devastated and abandoned the cause, retreating into seclusion across different corners of Sakaar. Rhodey and Valkyrie, who had developed feelings for each, split up as well.
After a while, Valkyrie was inspired to pick up the fight once again and sought out Rogers, who rallied the Warbound against the slave masters, only to be confronted and killed by Ares. The rest were scattered and forced to flee. Valkyrie came across Rhodey, who agreed to rejoin the fight and revealed that before Tony's death he an Bruce were working on a Gamma Arc Reactor that could in theory drain Maestro's power. Rhodey helped Valkyrie locate Bruce in the Gamma Desert, who agreed to complete his and Tony's work.
Meanwhile, some members of the rebellion began infiltrating the Crown City, with one of them posing as a gladiator and fighting their way to the final round of the arena games against the current champion. They fought the God of War Ares managed to kill him, only for Maestro himself to jump into the arena with the intent to crush the rebellion with his own hands. Rhody arrived wearing his War Machine Armor, now outfitted with Gamma Arc Reactor, and used it to drain a portion of Maestro's power. However Maestro still proved formidable enough and fought the War Machine until he overpowered the armor and began pounding on it. Seeing his friend in lethal danger, Bruce let out the Hulk, who jumped in to protect Rhodey and punched the Maestro out of the arena. Valkyrie rushed to Rhodey's side, who proved to be severely injured but still alive. They shared a tender moment, and Rhodey urged Val to finish what they and Tony had started. Valkyrie followed the Hulk and managed to kill Maestro, freeing Sakaar of his tyranny. Rhodey and the others arrived shortly after and the two lower reconnected again, although Valkyrie had to leave soon to deal with a bigger threat to the entire Primary Earth.[1]
