History

Having been rescued by Carter Slade from white outlaws masquerading as indians, He proceeds to watch his rescuer get gunned down. After the fake indians ride off sure that Slade is dead, Jamie sees signs of life and puts him upon his horse and rides in search of help. After many long and tiring days they come across an actual native american tribe whose medicine man prays to the spirits to cure Slade of his injuries and Jamie of the sickness he acquired on the journey. When Slade And Jamie are miraculously restored to full health and Carter Slade becomes The Phantom Rider, Jamie becomes the only person to know his secret.

After Slade's death saving his brother Lincoln Slade from an avalanche, Jamie attempted to carry on Carter's legacy as the Phantom Rider, showing up dressed in the costume at Carter's funeral. After being chased down by Lincoln, Jamie explained to Lincoln all about Carter's crime-fighting identity as the Phantom Rider. When Jamie tries to convince the older, experienced Federal Marshall Lincoln to take over the identity instead of Jamie, Lincoln refuses, urging Jamie to let the Phantom Rider die with Carter. Jamie, believing the Phantom Rider must live on, ignores Lincoln's urging and dresses up as the Phantom Rider again. In his first attempts at heroics as the Phantom Rider, Jamie intervenes in a stagecoach robbery only to be shot by one of the bandits. Jamie dies in Lincoln's arms, finally inspiring him to take up his late brother's identity.[1]
