Jane Foster works at the Bergen War Memorial Museum when she meets Thor. Through the course of the series, she obtains a promotion.

She first encounters Thor when he is thrown out of a pub for defending a woman against a man's unwanted advances. He later retrieves Mjolnir by breaking a Viking-era vase in the museum. Jane glues the vase back together.[citation needed]

In addition to interacting with Thor and her coworkers, Jane also goes out with female friends while Thor is visited by The Warriors Three. She and Thor also encounter Jim, her ex (a doctor). Along with Thor, she becomes a target of the villain Mister Hyde.

Jane establishes a romantic relationship with Thor while he is in Oklahoma for two weeks. While staying at her apartment, Thor learns how to read English and cooks for her. Although he is supposed to sleep on the couch, the story implies that at some point he does not, and that their activities are the reason they failed to hear major damage occurring outside of the apartment.

Thor summons his legendary chariot, pulled by goats Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher. In it, he takes Jane to multiple locations on Earth. They encounter Namor, the Sub-Mariner on this adventure and Jane establishes a rapport with him. They also meet Iron Man, Wasp (Janet van Dyne), and Ant-Man (Henry Pym).

She serendipitously sings "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in the shower, a reference to the Bifrost Bridge and its rainbow coloring.[citation needed]

Artists' notes published at the ends of the volumes indicate that this version of Jane should look more like actor Lizzie Caplan and less like Natalie Portman; the latter was chosen to portray Jane in the 2011 film adaptation.
