History
Janice Jones was the fiancée of Scott Banner, a genius scientist who used his knowledge for criminal acts. Jones was tried and convicted for Banner's crimes, sentenced to an experimental super-max known as The Ant Farm, where Warden Headman tested an experimental Gamma-powered Pym Particle Beam to shrink his prisoners to the microscopic level. Before Janice could be subjected to the beam, Banner arrived to free her, destroying the beam. In the aftermath of the explosion- Banner was irradiated and became Little Monster, while Janice herself would join a team of ex-convicts, the Thunderbolts, under the name The Beetle.
Eventually, Headman reached out to Janice- he had accidentally infected himself with his own experimental A-Bomb virus before he could create a proper cure. Janice, still bitter about Headman's history, refused- prompting him to send out a different prototype strain of the virus he did possess a cure for to a local children's hospital, infecting 164 children before entering a vegetative state. With no other choice but to save Headman to access the cure for the children, Janice reached out to Scott, intending to shrink him down small enough to physically destroy the infection.[1]Notes
