History

When the Fantastic Four and the Avengers sacrificed their lives to destroy Onslaught, Franklin Richards, the son of the FF's Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman subconsciously created a pocket universe to save their lives. There they spent an entire year reliving living new lives "reborn" into a reality where they recently gained their abilities that vaguely mirror how they gained their powers originally.[citation needed]

In this new universe, Franklin created populated universe, including recreations of many of these heroes allies and foes. Among these creations was one based on Jasper Sitwell of SHIELD.[citation needed]

In this reality, Jasper was a government agent of an undisclosed department who acted as a liaison for Stark International and the government. When Hydra targeted the site where Stark International was building a gamma bomb for the US military, they detonated it with Bruce Banner, the bomb's inventor, trapped inside. The resulting explosion caused the craft that Tony Stark and Sitwell were traveling in when coming to investigate the security breach to crash. Both men would be seriously wounded in the crash, Stark getting shrapnel stuck in his chest. Leaving Sitwell behind, Stark investigated the ruins of his plant and dawned a suit of Prometheum Armor to save his life. Sitwell witnessed "Iron Man's" battle with the gamma spawned monster called the Hulk (in reality a mutated Banner). Their battle took them away from the ruined plant and left Sitwell wondering the identities of both the Hulk and Iron Man. Sitwell was not able to investigate this further as the government called in the Fantastic Four to try and track down the Hulk.[1]

Later, Sitwell was unable to disclose any information to Stark about the gamma bomb problem and began his own independent investigation into the effects of gamma radiation. Tapping the phone of psychiatrist Leonard Samson, Sitwell learned that Bruce Banner was really the Hulk.[2] In attempting to locate Banner, Sitwell had Samson taken into his custody. When Samson refused to cooperate with Sitwell's demands to disclose Banner's whereabouts, he had Samson injected with gamma radiation in the hopes of creating another Hulk-like creature to use for government service. This was Jasper's undoing as Samson mutated into a horribly gamma spawned abomination which savagely attack them, seemingly slaying Sitwell and his cohorts.[3]
