History
When Jay T. Thomas was a kid, he would sneak out and spend all night looking at stars.
Eventually, Jay Thomas became an astronaut and was chosen to be a pilot for the first manned Mars probe. However, after takeoff, he noticed an unknown fast moving object outside his probe. Soon after, contact with him was lost by ground control. Two days later, they were able to establish contact with his probe and bring it back to Earth by triggering its autopilot, which landed it in a cemetery. A squad of soldiers were sent to retrieve the capsule and find out what happened to Jay Thomas. As they got close to the capsule, suddenly, a creature sprung out of it and took off into the woods. When the soldiers investigated the inside of the capsule, they could not find Thomas inside. This event and not knowing what exactly happened to his son made T.T. Thomas, Jay's father, develop an obsession and hatred for the creature, now known as Spider-Man.
Eddie Costanza was attacked by Spider-Man who killed him, feeding on his blood. Capturing it in photograph, Rob Peterson took the photos to T.T. Thomas, the head of The Clarion newspaper, who intended to use the photos to show the world that Spider-Man was a bloodthirsty monster.
Later, when Professor Squid attacked The Clarion building's print room and demanded to see T.T. Thomas, T.T. Thomas agreed in exchange for the safety of his employees held hostage by Professor Squid. Shortly after T.T. Thomas came face to face with Squid, Spider-Man suddenly crashed out of the windows and attacked the villain. Eventually, Spider-Man activated the printing press, which catched and drew in Professor Squid's arms into it and crushed them. With Professor Squid defeated, after Spider-Man and T.T. Thomas exchanged looks in silence for a time, Spider-Man put up his hand for a handshake, but before T.T. had a chance to respond, one of members of the SWAT team storming the premises shot Spider-Man in the shoulder. T.T. shouted them to wait, giving Spider-Man the opportunity to escape.
During the fight between Spider-Man and Professor Squid, The Clarion's Bill Potter, seemingly mind-controlled by Spider-Man, stole the pictures of Eddie Costanza's murder and later gave them to Spider-Man.[1]
A photo of Spider-Man was present in Weapon X's database, which might indicate Weapon X thought Spider-Man was a mutant, as Weapon X's operations seemed to be centered around mutants.[2]Attributes
Powers
- Super strength, claws, webbing, superhuman endurance, superhuman durability
- Seemingly mind-control: Spider-Man seemingly possesses some kind of mind-control power, as when Bill Potter was bringing the photos of Eddie Costanza's murder to Spider-Man, Bill's eyes were depicted as solid white, indicating he was under some sort of trance.
Abilities
- Spacecraft piloting skills
Notes
- Although his true identity is never officially stated, the last panel shows the "J" of his mother's necklace given to him by his father before his space mission in relief on his neck.[1]
- The character's human identity is based on John Jonah Jameson III, as he is the son of a J. Jonah Jameson analog in T. T. Thomas and is a former astronaut.
- The analog for Peter Parker-616's civilian identity, on the other hand, is Rob Peterson, who is shown to be the one taking pictures of Spider-Man.

- Spider-Man's presence in Weapon X's database could indicate he was apprehended by them and forced to become a part of X-Men, as it appeared that the database only shows available members that could be recruited for missions. However, Sabretooth was also seen in the database despite being a member of Doctor Strange's Church of the Splitting Atom at the time, so this may not be the case. Another possibility is that the person resembling Spider-Man in the database is someone else and not Jay, especially since the face or the mask of the person seen in Weapon X's database is barely identifiable and what little that can be seen does not outright preclude but also does not indicate monstrous features like this Spider-Man.
