Phoenix was one of the original X-Men along with Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel. She was once known as Marvel Girl. Although impersonated by the Phoenix Force when the Phoenix codename was first used, Jean would later adopt Phoenix as her own codename in honor of her alternate timeline daughter Rachel Summers. A powerful telepath and telekinetic, when acting as an avatar of the Phoenix Force she can also wield that entity's incredible powers such as cosmic pyrokinesis, resurrection, and immortality. Apparently dead at the present time, her connection with the Phoenix Force makes it unlikely that she will ever truly die.
