History

The early life of Jean Grey largely mirrors that of her Earth-616 counterpart.

Jean's powers manifest

When Jean witnessed the death of her best friend, her latent telepathic and telekinetic powers were activated. In that moment, she was overwhelmed with the pain of the world's entire population, unable to control the inflow of feelings from around the world. Her telepathic cries for help were heard by the world's foremost telepath, Professor Charles Xavier. Xavier recruited Jean as a member of his team of mutant heroes, the X-Men. She would eventually fall in love with her teammate Cyclops.[2]

Jean and Logan

While piloting a rocket ship on a mission for the X-Men, Jean was forced to sacrifice herself for her teammates. Her telepathic cries attracted the Phoenix Force, which bonded itself to her. Now a binary being, the Phoenix, which had come to Earth to die, would live a life of turmoil before sacrificing itself to save those it loved, chief among them Cyclops.[2]

Jean's original body, still buried in Jamaica Bay where her ship had crashed, was eventually revived, with Jean resuming her relationship with Cyclops. At some point, she lost her telepathic abilities. This would eventually spare her life when the psychic birth of the Skull resulted in the death of every telepath on the planet, including her mentor Professor Xavier.[3][2]

Shortly after this, the X-Men disbanded. Around this time Jean would leave Cyclops after a long relationship to pursue a romance with another X-Man; Wolverine.[4]

However, Wolverine and Jean's life would soon devolve into a New York stereotype of the bickering couple. Both would put on weight and would spend their time constantly arguing with each other. When Wolverine refused to help the other heroes defend New York from the Skull and his army, Jean left him in disgust, telling him that she was in fact Madelyne Pryor to rankle him even more.[1]

Jean older and unhappy

Jean would resurface years later at the wedding of Medusa and King Britain, which served as a brief reunion of the surviving members of the X-Men. She would reconcile with Wolverine, telling him that she truly was the real Jean and that she had only told him that she was Madelyne to spite him. However the two would remain apart, and her current whereabouts are unknown.[2]

Attributes

Powers

Jean's abilities mirror those of her Earth-616 counterpart, however, in recent times she has lost her telepathic abilities. Although it has been suggested that she has retained her telekinetic powers, she has not exhibited their use.
