Jema Comienza and her husband José were two government agents in Cuba. Fidel Castro requested the help of the Red Room Academy, due to the suspicion the Comienzas were among the several who wished to defect with information to the United States.[1]
When Red Room operative Natasha Romanova was sent to infiltrate Cuba under the guise of being a Russian businesswoman that could help them, the Comienzas initially claimed to be in good graces with the government. In order to make them reconsider their relationship with the Americans, with whom the Comienzas had talked, Natasha planted miniature US flag in their front door to send them the message that somebody was watching. Jema convinced José to contact the Americans and flee as soon as possible, for the sake of their son Emiliano. However, when José was going to meet up with them, Natasha had wired their car and made it explode in front of José's eyes.
In despair, Jema and José contacted Natasha to ask her to help them. When Natasha told them they'd need to give something in exchange, José gave her value information he possessed. With the potential intel the Americans could have wanted discovered, Natasha was ordered to dispose of José and Jema. The Comienzas were lured to Plaza Vieja, still thinking they were going to be given an opportunity to escape, and while they were waiting for their supposed transport, Natasha sniped them down. Starting with Jema, and then José.[1]
