History
Personality
Jessica is a kind, selfless, and brave woman who consistently places herself in harm's way in order to save others. While in her civilian identity, Jessica acts somewhat timid and passive, as she rarely challenges Jeff's rather chauvinistic attitude towards her. When in costume, however, she speaks with a notably more confident tone, and stands up to all kinds of foes.[citation needed]
Jessica has a somewhat dry sense of humor, and frequently makes spider-based puns about her situation or to mock her opponents. She rarely takes time to relax, as she is almost always fighting crime, saving lives, or working on her newspaper, but she does not seem to mind. She is consistently polite to just about every non-criminal she comes across, even if they are rather dismissive towards her. In particular, she seems to hold Spider-Man in very high regard and always shows him a great deal of respect, while he could be somewhat condescending towards her.[citation needed]
Jessica could be somewhat overconfident in battle, such as when she was fighting C.B.'s Robot Spider and let her guard down after webbing it, allowing the robot to capture her with ease. She also has a fiery temper that has resulted in her failing to account for all of her surroundings, which the Kingpin exploited in order to kidnap her by taunting her while one of his men grabbed her from behind. Jessica is highly protective of her secret identity, and trusts no one with it. She almost allowed herself and her friends to be killed by the Kongo Spider before Spider-Man saved her, as she refused to change into Spider-Woman in front of them. When the Kingpin was about to reveal her secret identity to the world and she was powerless to stop him, Spider-Woman briefly begged him not to go through with it. Jessica has a strong sense of justice and indomitable willpower, as shown when she desperately resisted the Spider-King's brainwashing despite clearly being in pain, and referring to herself as the "defender of justice" while doing so.[citation needed]Attributes
