- āKid Juggernaut[src]
History
Joon-Sung "Justin" Jin was born to Hae-Ran Jin, a former waitress, and Jung-Woo Jin, a broken man whose life had been ruined by the shadow of his father's past as the Juggernaut in Korea.[2] At some point, his family moved to Vancouver, where they ran a small bakery, Vancity Buns.[1] When Justin was five, his parents divorced and his father moved back to South Korea. From then on, Justin grew estranged from Jung-Woo.[4] As the years went by, Justin Jin developed a massive bulk for a teenager his age, becoming a proficient basketball player.[2]
When Justin was seventeen years old, Jung-Woo mysteriously died and he received his father's belongings, which included a small jewelry box containing a fragment of the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. After making contact with the artifact, Justin was empowered with the vast strength of the unstoppable Juggernaut.[4] As the transformation was witnessed by his mother, she shared his family's story with him, including the fate of his late grandfather, who had been killed by Cain Marko for the mantle of the Juggernaut, and his late father's refusal to take the powers of the Juggernaut out of shame. Justin and Hae-Ran were then confronted by Malphegor, a follower of Cyttorak who wished to acquire the power of the Juggernaut for himself and had murdered Jung-Woo for his artifact before realizing that he sent it to his son.[5] Justin and Malphegor battled in the streets of Vancouver until "Doctor Strange" intervened to rescue Justin. Strange and Justin teleported to one of Cyttorak's temples in the North Shore Mountains, where Strange tapped into the temple's mystical energies to protect Justin and explained Malphegor's past to him. Malphegor tracked the two down and at Strange's urging, Justin embraced his family legacy and summoned his own suit of Juggernaut Armor.[6] Justin beat down Malphegor and destroyed his staff, which depowered him. Strange ordered Justin to kill Malphegor but he refused, realizing that the real Doctor Strange would never encourage murder. Strange revealed himself to be Cyttorak in disguise and declared both Malphegor and Justin to unworthy of being his avatar after pitting the two against each other. Justin refused to play into Cytorrak's game after what he did to his family but Cyttorak mocked him as Justin only inherited a portion of his power and left Justin to himself as he had bigger plans for him. Justin traveled back on foot to his mother's bakery and expressed his worry over Cytorrak's plans for him, but Hae-Ran encouraged him to train and hone his powers to be ready to face Cyttorak again. After reading his father's letter, which told him to be a better and stronger version of him, Justin embraced his new identity and became Kid Juggernaut.[7]
While trying to be a superhero in Vancouver, Kid Juggernaut was approached by Alpha Flight, but was put off by their intense approach. He also battled gaze of raccoons that believed were being controlled by a super villain (though they turned out to be regular raccoons), was present when some Skrulls revealed themselves, and help rescue pets from trees.[3]
