While he was on a mission in China to have a secret conference with the Generalissimo Chang Kai Shek, the American envoy John Adams was captured by the Imperial Japanese forces and tortured to make him reveal where he was to meet the Generalissimo. The envoy resisted torture thanks to the timely intervention of the Vision that defeated the Japanese and liberated him.[citation needed]
