Colonel John Jameson was an astronaut with NASA and the son of J. Jonah Jameson, the head of Daily Bugle Communications. Spider-Man and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Trainees answered a distress signal coming from J. Jonah Jameson to look for his son on the Moon, where he was supervising the construction of a Daily Bugle communications station.

They launched the S.H.I.E.L.D. Astro-carrier, from its section on the Tri-carrier. On the Moon, the construction crew found the remains of an advanced civilization harboring a number of strange jewels, one of which embedded itself in John's chest and triggered his transformation into the feral Man-Wolf. Spider-Man managed to shatter the Godstone, but the sudden reversion causes John to retain some wolfish features, whereupon he was kept in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody for treatment.[1]
