J. Jonah Jameson[src]

History

After his son John was killed in a space-travel accident, J. Jonah Jameson went to interview Curt Connors, whom he resented for being funded while his son died. Mid-tirade, Jonah was bitten by a radioactive spider that had escaped one of Connors' experiments. He awoke the next day to find he had gained spider-like abilities.

After learning from Betty Brant that Starrox had invested in space travel right before his son's accident, Jonah had Peter Parker make him a costume and infiltrated a meeting of their shareholders. He realized that the Shocker, a villain hired by Starrox, was responsible for his son's death. He tied Shocker up in webbing and used the information he got from an interrogation in an article that revealed the truth.

After defeating Shocker, Jonah read an article about him written by Peter Parker, dubbing the new hero Spider-Man. Jonah declared this name is stupid and decided to call himself Headline.[1]

Notes

  • The overall plot and story for Headline bears similarity to a 2021 Fan Comic titled "What If... J. Jonah Jameson became Spider-Man?", featuring parallels such as the shot of Peter discovering Jameson's powers, Peter been JJJ's 'Guy in the Chair', Jameson uncovering a conspiracy that targeted a son-like figure of his, etc.
