History

The early life and history of J. Jonah Jameson mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart.

The firebrand publisher of the Daily Bugle, Jonah made it his life's work to expose the vigilante known as Spider-Man. In anticipation of his plot to seize control of the United States of America, industrialist and former supervillain Norman Osborn revealed Spider-Man's identity to Jonah; Peter Parker, a photographer for the Daily Bugle.[1]

Jonah quickly published this, unaware that he was playing into Osborn's hands. Just as Osborn had predicted, the revelation that the Daily Bugle had been employing the so-called "menace" Spider-Man for years cost the paper it's credibility, and soon went out of business, freeing Osborn from the scrutiny his plans might face from the Bugle.[1][2]

Following the mutation of humanity, Jameson was transformed into a humanoid donkey, yet another humiliation heaped onto everything else. When Jameson encountered the feral wolfman Jack Russell, he mistook him for his son John. Jonah trapped Jack in the Bugle's vacant offices, dedicating himself to caring for him.[1]

Upon John Jameson's return to Earth, following the defeat of the Celestials, John would find his father and the two would be reunited. Some years later, Jameson would become a target of Mephisto. With the death of Death, Mephisto would terrorize humanity and take advantage of their inability to die by mortally wounding various humans so that they could suffer eternally. Jameson would be admitted to one of the many hospitals created to house the suffering and undergo treatment from Stephen Strange. With Jude the Entropic Man taking over the role of Death in the land of the living, Jameson was presumably freed from his torment.[3][4]

Whether Jonah's mutation conferred him any particular powers beyond those granted by his donkey-like physiology is unknown.
