The past history of J. Jonah Jameson of Earth-9997 mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart. In recent history, Jameson would see his professional career come to an end when Peter Parker would reveal his true identity as Spider-Man. The backlash and criticism would cost Jameson not only his job, but would lead to the Daily Bugle going out of business.

During this time, Jameson's exposure to the Terrigen Mist would result in Jameson mutating into a humanoid donkey, yet another humiliation heaped onto everything else. Defeated, Jameson would eventually forget that his son John was on a mission in space and would trap a wolf-being in the Daily Bugle building and feed it thinking it to be his son. It was later revealed that this wolf-being was really Jack Russell, the Werewolf.

Upon John Jameson's return to Earth, following the defeat of the Celestials, John would find his father and the two would be reunited. The reunion would return Jameson to some semblance of sanity. Some years later, Jameson would become a target of Mephisto. With the death of Death, Mephisto would terrorize humanity and take advantage of their inability to die by mortally wounding various humans so that they could suffer eternally. Jameson would be admitted to one of the many hospitals created to house the suffering and undergo treatment from Stephen Strange. With Jude the Entropic Man taking over the role of Death in the land of the living, Jameson's ultimate fate remains unrevealed.
