History
Origin[]
John Lopez was born in Bronx. As a kid he was often taken to Yankee Stadium by his father to watch games. However, his father was an addict and for ten years was either in rehab or in jail.[4] Lopez was a chronic child bed-wetter,[3] until he discovered that he was a mutant capable to generate a spurt of water from his body when he touched anything.[1]
X-Statix[]
Years later, John was approached by Malcolm Colcord, who offered to help him change his life. John refused at first, because the offer was fishy, but Colcord pinpointed that John was a loser all his life, he have no friends or family, works on a boring job and his power is almost useless, so he had nothing to lose. Accepting the offer, John underwent a process that greatly enhanced his power and allowed him to transform into water and control it. To test his new power, Colcord summoned Eric Moreels, and ordered John to try to control the water in Moreels' body. John did, and the water started to boil, despite Moreels' pleas for mercy John hadn't stopped until Moreels exploded.[1]
John wanted to try his luck at an audition to join the new media-savvy X-Force team. Taking on the codename Wash-Out, John competed in a contest and defeated Lightning Bug, but in the end he was not recruited.[3]
Weapon X[]

The side-effects
Soon after, John joined the Weapon X Program and changed name to Washout. He participated in their attack on the Zodiac to retrieve Madison Jeffries. Washout killed Capricorn and Pisces by drowning them.[5]
The team was next sent to interrogate associates of Sabretooth, who had stolen and hid important information from Weapon X. Washout fought with Avalanche and then interrogated him and Blob, but with no results.[6]
After several other missions Washout discovered that his skin was cracking and peeling off. Fellow Weapon X agent Brent Jackson revealed to him that the procedure that augmented John's powers had a side-effect; he was dehydrating after each usage of powers and would die soon.[7]
Feeling betrayed by Director Colcord, Washout joined Brent Jackson's group in a conspiracy against the Director and started to work with Cable's Underground movement.[8]
Washout helped the Underground infiltrate the Weapon X compound by temporarily shutting down the power. At the same time he attacked and attempted to kill the Director. He caused the water within the Director's body to boil, but the side effects from his powers caused Washout to die before he could finish off the Director.[2]
Washout's remains were taken by Mister Sinister.[9]Attributes

Powers

Washoout was a mutant.
- Water Generation: His original power made it possible for him to generate small spurts of water when he touched anything.[1]
Later on Weapon X performed an experimental treatment on him. The process drastically improved his powers, but it had a side effect; every time Washout used powers he dehydrated in result more and more,[1] ans soon his skin started to crack and peel off.[4]
- Water Mimicry: John was able to transform his body entirely[1] or partially into water.[5] He could control the transformed parts, for example, project water as powerful blasts, or use it to submerge and drown other people.[5]
- Water Manipulation: He was also able to control outside sources of water, like sea water,[6] and affect water within the bodies of other people, boiling it until the person would explode.[1][2]
Notes
- According to his X-Force audition sheet, John was raised in the tyrannical polygamous sect and after getting powers he used them to punish the sect.[3] However, his original power was extremelly weak,[1] so it is unlikely he could've done it. Moreover, when John visited his father he mentioned nothing about the sect, so, while it is possible what John was adopted into the sect while his father was in jail and rehab,[4] it seems unlikely. The entire story was probably just a lie to attract X-Force's attention during the audition.
