Overview[]
John Nicholas Turitzin[1] is an american lawyer and business executive who has been employed by the several incarnations and subsidiaries of Marvel Entertainment, LLC. since February 24, 2004,[2] and currently serves as the company's Chief Counsel.[3]
Marvel Enterprises[]
Turitzin joined Marvel Enterprises, Inc. as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the company on February 24, 2004, often serving as a Director, President or Executive Vice President of some of the company's subsidiaries.[4]
Marvel Entertainment[]
Marvel Enterprises, Inc. renamed itself Marvel Entertainment, Inc. on September 16, 2005, after successfully closing a deal to finance its own movie slate.[5]
When the Marvel Publishing division was incorporated as a subsidiary named Marvel Publishing, Inc. on October 03, 2005,[6] Turitzin and fellow Marvel lawyer Benjamin Dean were enlisted as the newly formed company's Directors.[7]
On March 13, 2006, John added Chief Administrative Officer of Marvel Entertainment to his Executive Vice President and General Counsel title.[8] On September 26, 2006, Turitzin and Marvel Studios, Inc.'s President and Chief Operating Officer, David Maisel, were promoted to the newly created posts of Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive.[9] Although Turitzin officially discarded his former Chief Administrative Officer title, he also continued to serve as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the company.[10]
The Walt Disney Company[]
On December 31, 2009, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. Marvel was merged into a subsidiary of Disney, Maverick Merger Sub LLC., which was then renamed Marvel Entertainment, LLC., remaining only as an holding company while all the business operations were transferred to the Marvel Publishing, Inc. subsidiary,[11] which was renamed Marvel Worldwide, Inc. on January 05, 2010.[12] John Turitzin was listed as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Principal Executive Officer of the holding company, Marvel Entertainment, LLC.,[13] as well as Director, Executive Vice President[14] and Chief Counsel of Marvel Worldwide, Inc.[15]
On March 29, 2023 Turitzin, alongside Chairman Isaac Perlmutter and Co-President Robert Steffens, was laid off by Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger as part of a cost-cutting program spearheaded by the company's senior management team.[16]Professional History
