History

As on Earth-616, Joseph Robertson is a high-ranking employee at the New York Newspaper, the Clarín (that universe's version of Daily Bugle), and he's close to publisher J. Jonah Jameson.[1] Robertson is often in the office during business hours, and listens to Jameson's instructions and often complaints.[2] Robertson is close to the employees, including Peter Parker, who is secretly the superhero el Hombre Araña,[1] and who routinely sold pictures of el Hombre Araña to the Clarín.[2]

When the supervillain Satánica captured el Hombre Araña, Jameson complained to Robertson that the superhero had disappeared when needed, and also that Parker had not provided photos. Jameson then ordered Robertson to write a story for publication, clearly exposing the anti-Hombre Araña point of view that Jameson favored.[2]

When Jameson demanded Robertson a series of articles explaining that el Hombre Araña was protecting the criminal gang Satánicas, Robertson was unenthusiastic, as the information was clearly false and would damage the reputation of the Clarín, but still agreed to do it.[3]

Robertson was recruited by Jameson for a sea voyage in search of hidden treasure on a mysterious island. Jameson led Robertson to believe that he was summoning him and Parker to scold them. Parker insisted on bringing his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy to the meeting, and Robertson agreed. Jameson then took Robertson, Parker, and Stacy to a chartered ship and they went to a strange island where primitive men captured them and attempted to sacrifice Stacy to a giant.[1] Jameson then took Robertson, Parker, and Stacy to a chartered ship and they went to a strange island where primitive men captured them and attempted to sacrifice Stacy to a giant.[1]

Having survived this trip, Robertson was at the Clarín with Parker and other employees - Ned Leeds and Betty Brant - when Jameson demanded an involving feature about the several airplane crashes that had happened recently. Parker suggested that the Clarín paid a reporter a plane ticket for the same plane prominent Brohoober was taking so that they'd be close in case something happened - but only Parker volunteered for this. Jameson accused Robertson and the others of being afraid.[4]

Robertson was at the Clarín offices when Jameson got news that el Hombre Araña was openly stealing (Actually the thief was an impostor, who was discovered shortly thereafter).[5]
