A young kid living in Buenavista, New Mexico, he used to run around with a gang during the nights much to his mother, Señora Hidalgo's, concern. Social worker Bonita Juarez included Juan in the youth program "Project Recovery", found out that Juan had a natural skill for electronics, and arranged for the NGO to buy him a ham radio set, turning him into a harmless radio ham. Juarez visited their home and, through Juan's radio, received a call from Richard Jones to the Avengers; Juan pinpointed it as coming from Southern California. As Juarez was secretly a superheroine, she left to follow the call.[1]
