Kamal Rakim was once a military college student who attacked T'Challa back when they were students together. He was angered T'Challa was dating a white woman named Nikki Adams at the time. T'Challa beat up Kamal's gang.[1]

Decades later they met at a party when T'Challa was now the hero Black Panther and the king of Wakanda. Kamal had outgrown his past and was now a US senator. However, he still took umbrage to the fact that the White House invited him (and, in fact, any black person) at the last minute to the first state dinner honoring a long-standing African royalty. In response, he arranged for hundreds of minorities to swarm the streets in an effort to see T'Challa.[1]
