Kang to the Maker[src]

History

Kang was an inhabitant of the far future of Earth-6160. When the present-day imperator of this world, the Maker, sought to learn if his dominion lasted into the future, he used the time machine that he had employed to rewrite history to his image, the Immortus Engine, and jumped to the furthest point forward he could. He stumbled into Kang, who quickly attacked the imperator for his wrongdoings to history. The Maker escaped back to the present with his memory impaired due to a severe injury sustained from Kang, and with the Immortus Engine broken.[1]

Still pursuing revenge against the Maker, Kang assembled an army of genetically-engineered clone super-soldiers and sent them into the Maker's present using an Immortus Engine in his own possession. However, the super-soldiers failed. The Maker tracked down their DNA to their present-day ancestors and killed them, causing the soldiers to cease to exist.[2] In response, Kang assembled a bigger army made from different genetic material.[3]

Fighting the Maker

In the present, the Maker enlisted the help of super-genius inventor Howard Stark to replace the broken Immortus Engine. Stark and his ally Reed Richards opted to betray the Maker. While Stark was delivering he second Immortus Engine to the Maker, Richards snuck into the mainframe of the Maker's headquarters, the City, and temporarily deactivated its temporal shields. This gave Kang and his army a window of opportunity to strike within the Maker's domain, but left them trapped inside the City. Kang and the Maker were locked in combat until Stark intervened, empowered by the second Immortus Engine. He used it to blast the Maker and Kang, as well as both of their armies. With Kang seemingly dead, Howard approached his body and took off his armor's faceplate, reacting with lament afterward.[1]

Notes

  • Although Kang's identity is not revealed, it is strongly implied that he is the future version of Howard Stark's son Tony. In addition to possessing an armor visually derivative of Howard's Iron Man suit and speaking highly of Howard, present-day Tony became Iron Lad wearing an armor identical to Kang's save for a different color scheme. Tony becoming Iron Lad before eventually adopting the alias of Kang would also mirror the evolution of the mainline Kang the Conqueror, who also adopted the alias of Iron Lad in his youth.
