Kantu was a young Wakandan boy whose life became entangled with the adventures of the Black Panther.

History

Kantu (Earth-616) from Jungle Action Vol 2 9 001

A young Kantu encountering T'Challa for the first time

When a charging 3000-pound black rhinoceros put Kantu in danger, T'Challa came to his rescue.[1] Later, during the invasion of Wakanda by Erik Killmonger's forces, his father M'Jumbak was killed by Baron Macabre, and Monica Lynne moved into his homestead to help him and his mother Karota tend to their farm.[2] T'Challa, Monica, Taku all comforted him further when his mother fell ill with malnutrition.[3]

Kantu was eventually instrumental in Killmonger's defeat, helping to knock him over Warrior Falls to his first apparent "death".[4] A statue of the young boy was erected in recognition of his great deed.[5]

Years later as a teenager, and partially due to the pressures of being a former child hero, Kantu took to using and distributing drugs smuggled into Wakanda by Solomon Prey. After Prey's men attacked him in the courtyard of his own statue, possibly for his failure to pay for their product, T'Challa had him taken into custody. Inside, he took to the drugs kept in the facility's medicine cabinet, and the unknown combination of medication gave him a seizure of the heart. One of the first drug-related casualties in modern Wakandan history, he passed away before medical help could reach him.[6]
