Kaorak was once the Autumn Continent of Arakko, given life by mutant magic as the youngest sibling of Arakko and Krakoa.[1]

History

Seeking to put an end to the Genesis War, En Sabah Nur formed a magic circle; with Shiro Yoshida as earth, the daemon Orc as air, Vulcan as fire, Apocalypse himself as water, and Storm as the magic itself, the forces of Krakoa mirrored Genesis' resurrection of Arakko by bringing their own new island to life.[1]

Storm challenged Genesis to raise her own island, and Arakko and Kaorak did battle. When Storm destroyed the corrupting influence of Annihilation, however, the battle ended and the two islands embraced. Old and new becoming one in a union of opposites, the true spirit of Okkara was reborn.[2]

Notes

Krakoa (Earth-616) from Giant-Size X-Men Vol 1 1 0001

Krakoa's earliest appearance, with facial tendrils, wide mouth and red eyes resembling Kaorak's.

  • While Krakoa was given a drastic redesign for its major role in the Krakoan era of comics, Kaorak's face heavily resembles Krakoa as it first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1.
  • Like its siblings, Kaorak's name is an anagram of its ancestor Okkara's. In contrast to its siblings, who are called "the island that walks like a man" and "the island that fights like a man", Kaorak is said to walk "like a mutant."[1]
